Week 1 Reality Recap
If the Rockers' excitement could have been measured by the volume of a
Marshall amp, it would have reached that level famously created by "Spinal
Tap"--eleven.
Entering the fabled Pulse Recording Studio, our fifteen aspirants not only
met Supernova's Tommy, Jason, Gilby and producer Butch Walker, but also had to
prove their vocal strengths and quick songwriting chops as well. After Tommy
called out: "Who's ready to rock some vocals?" the rockers became hesitant.
Which Rockers would be gutsy enough to put themselves on the line in front of
these legendary musicians?
Chris impressed by stepping up. This was the first time any of them had heard
each other sing. Healthy competition set in quickly. Jill and Storm boomed with
confidence; Zayra's vocals confused everyone (Gilby didn't get her vibe) and a
ballsy Phil rocked a melody without lyrics, earning Butch's respect.
Thinking he could set himself apart by not singing, Ryan abstained. Bad move.
Jason forebodingly said this was a "strike against him."
How about that move to the mansion? None of the Rockers were prepared for the
opulence in front of them. After marveling at the swimming pool, Jacuzzi and
swank furnishings, the Rockers wasted no time on a welcome feast and champagne.
Celebrating their good fortune, they were finally able to introduce themselves
officially. Dana proudly called herself a "redneck," Toby charmed while Lukas
cockily proclaimed, "I'm here to win."
And then there was the bedroom situation. Those who made easy connections
paired off instantly. Ryan, however, roamed the mansion for a room, finally
nabbing one with a bed too small. "I guess I'm starting out as the loner," he
reflected.
The next day Toby discovered the song list. Calling everyone together, he and
his fellow Rockers excitedly scanned their choices, trying to decide which tune
would present them the best. Sadly, a painfully ill Jenny was unable to leave
her room, so Storm compassionately wrote down the whole list and pushed it under
the door--even suggesting a song.
Meanwhile, Chris chose "Roxanne"--a tough one. After practicing, he began to
regret his decision. But how did the other rockers feel about their songs?
Settling in for the night, they studied their music, undoubtedly anticipating
the challenge of performing in front of Supernova, America and the world.
