Never let it be said that Beyoncé doesn't care about the little people. For a good long while, she's done her best to protect the delicate corneas of the public by keeping her engagement ring from Jay-Z securely under wraps. But on Friday night, five months after the couple surreptitiously said "I do," she blinded everyone in her path at the Fashion Rocks event in New York with a postage stamp-sized sparkler in a platinum setting. According to People, Beyoncé's emerald-cut digit-crusher is an 18-carat flawless diamond from jeweler Lorraine Schwartz. The purported price tag: a ridiculously excessive $5 million.
Will Ashlee Simpson-Wentz and Pete Wentz need to double the number of tot-proofed flat-irons and eyeliner pencils on their baby registry? For the second time in three months, twin chatter has hit the expectant twosome, this time sparked by Pete's hip-hopster pal Tyga, who tossed out the double-bundle possibility to E! News, saying, "They're having twins. They're really happy." Back in June, the Fall Out Boy father-to-be used the pronoun "them" when discussing his spawn during an interview, but he immediately quashed the multiple speculation, insisting he "misspoke" and was only trying to keep the pregnancy info nonspecific. A rep for Ashlee and Pete, who stuck close at Sunday night's MTV Video Music Awards, tells E! that the twinfanticipating talk is "not true," with Wentz adding to Us on the VMA red carpet, "It's going to be a big disappointment when it's only one!" Simpson, who last week took to her MySpace page to deny tabloid reports that she's gained a few too many baby-related pounds ("Carrying a child is the most inspiring, emotional, amazing experience of my life," she declared. "My weight and my pant size are the absolute last thing I am concerned about."), showed off her impressive, Jiffy Pop-esque belly on the red carpet in a black Alexander McQueen gown. According to USA Today, she told Taylor Swift that she chose the dress for the "the three B's -- the boobs, the belly and the booty," adding knowingly, "You have to pick ones that don't stick to your belly."
In other belly news, Uma Thurman is facing yet another round of womb whispers, thanks to some recent roomier-than-normal sartorial selections. The New York Daily News reports that the statuesque actress's assistant called high-end Los Angeles clothing store Fred Segal last week to buy six dresses. "They were all two sizes larger than she usually orders," a snitch tells the paper. Uma previously shot down pregnancy rumors in July, when she was photographed showing off a slightly swollen midsection (think a regular person after, say, a big burrito dinner) while sporting a bikini during a getaway to Corsica with her moneybags fiancé, Arpad Busson. Thurman, 38, who has two kids, Maya, 10, and Levon, 6, with ex-husband Ethan Hawke (he welcomed a baby girl two months ago with wife -- and former nanny -- Ryan Shawhughes), recently fessed up to having a relaxed approach to expanding her family. "I can safely say I don't know," she told the September issue of In Style. "If it's meant to happen, it will. I love and adore being a mother. ... [It's] the greatest gift I've ever been given." Busson has two sons -- 5-year-old Aurelius and 10-year-old Arpad Flynn -- with his former flame Elle Macpherson. The engagement may be kaput, but Salma Hayek is apparently still on very good terms with billionaire businessman Francois-Henri Pinault, the father of her 11-month-old daughter, Valentina. People reports that the exes, who called it quits in July, "were all smiles" while attending a birthday bash Saturday for Stevie Wonder's son Kailand Morris, 7. "She stayed by his side almost the whole time," a spy tells the mag. "It was so cute -- Francois-Henri was carrying the baby, smiling, and playing with her. He obviously adores Valentina." Their cozy outing comes just a few weeks after Pinault was photographed kissing and cuddling a blonde during a yachting trip to Italy.
Ellen DeGeneres admits she turned on the waterworks at the sight of Portia de Rossi in her pale pink wedding dress. "I cried when I saw her, because we didn't want to see our outfits beforehand," the newlywed swoons to Newsweek. "Actually, I could cry right now thinking about it. I never thought I would have that experience of getting married. I didn't think I was missing anything. I just didn't think about it." But the affable talk show host says "to see her for the first time and to cut a wedding cake, that was surreal for me and I got to experience that with our families around us. I didn't realize how special it was until I did it." When asked how the Aug. 16 ceremony, which took place at the couple's Beverly Hills estate, differed from a straight wedding, Ellen quipped, "Well, the food is gay. The water is gay. There's a gay vibe." |
