"For single mothers everywhere in love with crackheads, you are a shining
light of hope." That syrupy sweet nothing comes courtesy of Pete Doherty, who
chronicles his function-challenged romance with Kate Moss in his just released diaries, "The Books of
Albion: The Collected Writings of Peter Doherty."
The perforation-prone Babyshambles front man, 28, dedicates the tome, which kicks
off in 1999 and includes photos, drawings, arrest reports and copies of his
prescriptions, to the stubbornly committed supermodel, 33, whom he moons over as
"my true love."
In one touching journal entry from earlier this year, when Pete was making
his umpteenth stab at rehab, he talks about tying the knot with Kate, who is mom
to 4-year-old Lila.
"We have been close this time passed," he rambles, "and with me smack and
needle-free we shall marry in the summer and I become 10 times happier than any
given smackhead. Huzzah!"
Go on, we know you're just dying to say it: Awwww.
Still, Doherty deserves credit for the candor he displays in revealing how
his addiction recidivism has affected his relationship with Moss, including
sparking a few knock-down, drag-out fights.
One tussle took place during a train ride from London to Paris, he recalls,
with "Kate and I [bleeping] and fighting all the way on the Eurostar until
finally blood runs down my palm and up my head and before I leg it to oblivion
leaving her at the station calling me a this that and the other and a so-and-so
(accompanied by hand gestures)..."
Another came after a miserable sojourn to Thailand, where he was told his
"behavior reached an all-time low."
"I was thinking along the lines of being single," he mused after an argument,
before adding, "Folly such a thought, my heart aching and swimming and I dearly
missing Kate despite being convinced that the relationship was an unbearable and
intolerable disaster."
At one point, Doherty describes how his drug use is "extremely moderate and
controlled," although he quickly acknowledges, "What am I saying? Kate will not
tolerate this s***, I wouldn't blame her, and alongside the fixing neither of us
seem to completely trust each other although I love her and no other and the
tiffs and tumults come between magical happy times. The most cherished times are
spent in her arms."
Moss also pens a few words about her devotion to Doherty,
stream-of-consciously sighing, "You have touched my heart and soul, little
[bleep]er. I wish you wouldn't ring my door now go I could kiss you again and
float [away]. You make me high, my sweet, my skin shivers and longs to be held
by you."
