Is Jessica Simpson trying to grab some of the spotlight that's
been shining so brightly on little sister Ashlee courtesy of her engagement and
purported Pete Wentz-spawned bun in the oven? Turns out the stacked starlet's
romance with Tony Romo is suddenly generating plenty of ink.
"Jessica calls Tony 'My Future Husband,'" touts the cover of the latest Us
Weekly, which says the Dallas Cowboys star was recently spied shopping for rings
and his squeeze "dreams of being a football wife."
But did Romo make a purchase? According to the Chicago Sun-Times, the Texas
duo of five months was hit with "marriage buzz" while partying in Las Vegas last
weekend because of Jessica's choice of jewelry.
She was supposedly wearing a "chunky diamond" on her left hand, but yanked it
"off her finger whenever she thought someone might snap a photo," a snitch tells
the paper.
While reps for the toothy couple dismiss the "I do" chatter, Simpson
certainly isn't shy about declaring her devotion to the quarterback in the June
issue of Glamour, openly acknowledging she's "in love -- big time."
"What he's done for me is irreplaceable," says the former Mrs. Nick Lachey. "He reintroduced me to myself ... I thought
that I had to be deeper, more profound and more artsy. You change with the guys
you date. [I thought] I had to be more intellectual. Come on -- just be
yourself!"
She adds, "Tony taught me that because he loves me [as me]. He made me feel
comfortable [being myself] again."
She's so enamored with her pigskin sweetheart that she's even penned a song
for him, the sure-to-be-schmaltzy ditty "Back in My Old Boots," so named
because, "I feel like I'm walking back in my old boots. Jessica Simpson didn't
lose herself along the way."
Gushes Jessica, "This article could come out and Tony and I could be broken
up, but he still deserves all the accolades for bringing me back to who I am."
She says their romance kicked off after Romo e-mailed her string-pulling
dad-manager Joe to let him know he thought his daughter was "cute."
"Then he e-mailed me and we flirted over e-mail and on the phone," Simpson
blabs to the magazine. "We got to know each other by talking, which I think is
the best way."
On their first meet-and-greet in Dallas, "I had butterflies that you would
not imagine. I wanted to puke in the cup holder," she overshares.
Good thing she didn't, because it might have ruined the moment when Romo
leaned in to plant one on her during their first date, a lip-lock she
initially rebuffed.

"I said, 'Were you just trying to kiss me in front of all these people?' He
goes, 'Maybe.' I'm like, 'Try it again,'" she recalls. "I was taken aback by
someone wanting to kiss me in public. Because normally people are ashamed."
Swoons Simpson, "The fact that this guy, on our first date, in the first 10
minutes of dinner, wanted to lean over the table and say, 'This is my girl, and
I want to kiss her' -- our first kiss in front of everybody -- was awesome."
She also seems to suggest that her relationships with Lachey and John Mayer might have been undone because of their shared
music-making professions.
"It's easier for me to date an athlete. There's too much competition [with a
musician]," she says. "There's too much know-it-all pop star."
Meanwhile, are Romo's teammates a little wistful for the days when he could
party without any outside interference?
So claims FoxNews.com, which says Simpson decided to surprise her beau in Sin
City last Friday (he was in town during the NFL draft) and was "quick to
drag" him back to their penthouse suite.
The couple reportedly came up for air to dine with a couple dozen NFL-ers and
their squeezes at the Hard Rock eatery Ago, but after playing a little blackjack
with the group, they opted for "alone-time" in their deluxe digs instead of
joining everyone at a nearby club for some dancing, says a spy.
"The guys do genuinely like Jessica, but sometimes they find the extra media
attention and always having her around too much," another mole explains.
"Obviously Tony's priorities are different now, and having Jessica always in the
picture can be annoying."
Romo, however, seems content to spend quality cuddle-bunny time with Simpson.
People reports they enjoyed a romantic dinner a deux in a private room at
Ago, chowing down on Italian food and having a "heavy conversation," presumably
not about whether Jessica was eating chicken or fish.
