Lindsay Lohan and Hilary Duff have been at odds for so long that when
their bitter feud began, Linds was still a freckle-faced redhead, Hil had her
original teeth and Aaron Carter, the boy at the center of the drama, was still
cute. But those days are long gone, and so, it appears, is their animosity.
Us Weekly reports Lohan, 20, and Duff, 19, called a détente last Friday at
Los Angeles hot spot Les Deux, cementing the de-escalation of junior high-style
hostilities by burying the proverbial hatchet -- deep in Paris Hilton's back.
Seems that after the onetime rivals for Carter's affections hugged it out and
danced together, they bonded by sharpening their claws on Hilton, Lohan's
frenemy and the fickle BFF of Nicole Richie, who hooked up with Duff's ex Joel
Madden milliseconds after they broke up last November.
"They were making fun of Paris!" an eyewitness crows to the mag.
Lindsay even hopped up on one of the club's sofas when a Hilton ditty came on
and began shaking her booty in what was purportedly a catty homage to her
frequently banquette-dancing foe.
And their alleged mutual disdain for Paris was apparently strong enough to
keep their peace accord in place through the weekend.
On Monday, Lindsay hit Hilary's release bash for her forthcoming album,
"Dignity," and later turned up at the afterparty, where People spied the
socially active starlet chatting up Korn drummer David Silveria.
"We are both adults and whatever happened, happened when we were young. It's
over," Duff declares to People. "She's really fun. We were hanging out the other
night and she's a nice girl."
For those who had better things to do in 2003 than keep track of the
machinations of a teen love triangle (heck, Duff claimed last month that even
she couldn't remember why she and Lohan were fighting), here's a brief
refresher:
The bad blood began when Lindsay, who began dating Aaron, now 19, in early
2002, reportedly learned that he'd been seeing Hilary, his ex, on the side.
"I didn't mean any harm if I dated him at the same time," Duff later
explained. "I think he cheated on me, and I think he cheated on her ... I love
him to death as a friend [but] he made it look [to me] like they had broken up."
Still, sniffed Hilary of Lindsay, "She's so mean to me."
Tensions heated up that August, when the Duffster turned up at the premiere
of Lohan's "Freaky Friday" on the arm of Chad Michael Murray, LiLo's on-screen love interest,
before they boiled over in December, when Hilary allegedly tried -- and failed
-- to have Lindsay ejected from the post-premiere shindig of her movie, "Cheaper by the Dozen."
By early 2004, Lindsay had labeled their ill will "silly" and "unnecessary,"
telling Diane Sawyer, "I just wanted to let her know I have
no problems and neither should she. We were friends."
Hilary, however, still had a few problems, some of which she worked out a few
months later in "Haters," a song reportedly inspired by her nemesis. Sample
lyrics: "You're the queen of superficiality/Keep your lies out of my reality ...
You say your boyfriend's sweet and kind/But you've still got your eyes on mine."
The following year, Lohan again tried to kiss and make up. "I called her last
week, and I was like, 'Do you wanna hang out?' And her sister [Haylie] hung up the phone on me!" she huffed. "I
don't like having enemies ... and there's the saying, keep your friends close
but your enemies closer."
Which means don't be surprised if Lindsay and Hilary soon make amends with
Paris -- and she ends up doing an unflattering impersonation of one of
her many friends-turned-foes (our money is on Britney Spears).
