For Christina Aguilera, every day is like Valentine's Day, while
Avril Lavigne is a gift that keeps on giving. That's
according to the pint-size pop stars, who are speaking out about their feelings
for their respective hubbies, with one singing her partner's praises and the
other singing her own.
Aguilera, 26, tells People that when she's on the road, her music exec
husband, Jordan Bratman, 29, uses the twin powers of helium and sugar to
maintain the spark in their marriage.
"He'll fill my room with balloons and I won't be expecting it," she gushes.
"I'll come in the room and there will be balloons everywhere and a card and my
favorite chocolates all around and I'm always sending cards when I can, just
cute little love notes."
But Bratman has set the mushiness bar pretty darn high.
"He always leaves Post-its by my bed when I wake up in the morning telling me
how much he loves me," she reveals. "All that gushy stuff, but it feels good.
He's the best."
Christina, who tied the knot with the low-key Jordan in November 2005,
bubbles that he's her "best friend in the whole wide world."
Avril, 22, meanwhile, proclaims to Jane that she's "the best thing that's
ever happened to" Sum 41's Deryck Whibley, 27, her husband of eight months.
"We have a really good, strong relationship," says the hubris-stuffed, ersatz
rocker, as she dismisses the possibility that Whibley's eye could wander while
he's on tour. "There's a lot of trust. I know how much I mean to him ..."
Lavigne also defends her decision to ditch her Dickies in favor of a poufy
gown at their decidedly un-edgy knot-tying last July.
"I wanted to be like, 'Oh, let's totally have a rock 'n' roll, goth
wedding,'" she recalls. "But at the same time I was like, 'I've been dreaming
about my wedding day since I was a little girl. I have to wear the white dress.'
I wanted to be a princess, OK?"
And although she considered going the expected route and donning black, she
ultimately opted to go for timeless over trendy.
"I was thinking about our pictures," she explains. "I didn't want to be,
like, 20 years later, 'Oh, why did I wear my hair like that? It's not cool
now.'"
Lavigne, however, doesn't seem quite as concerned that some of her "not cool"
late-night antics have been documented for posterity, including hocking a loogie
at a shutterbug outside Los Angeles hot spot Hyde last September.
"I don't know what the big deal was, because I've been spitting at paparazzi
the past two years I've lived in L.A.," she says of her videotaped saliva
strike. "It was funny. But I think if Britney had had no underwear on that week,
my spitting thing wouldn't have been talked about."
And even though Avril appeared a mite tipsy in the expectoration footage, she
pats herself on the back for steering clear of stronger substances.
"I've never done coke in my life, and I'm proud of that," she tells Jane. "Oh
my God! I could never. I am 100 percent against drugs."
