From the annals of bad ideas that we hope die a quick and quiet death: Jessica Simpson may get real on CMT. The
at-a-career-crossroads starlet, 27, who just returned from a Hawaiian getaway
with quarterback-beau Tony Romo, may be contemplating a reality show centering
on her first country album, her dad-manager-string-puller Joe Simpson tells
Entertainment Weekly. "With 'Newlyweds,' she let everyone into
her world," promotes Papa Joe. "Then she had to shut the world out. Now she can
open it up again so people can see, here's a girl struggling with self-esteem
and finding her way. Country music is about storytelling, after all." (And
really, what could be better for her self-esteem struggle than inviting critical
evisceration?) But Jessica's rep is quick to put the kibosh on the reality show
reports, insisting to Us that it's just not happening. "Jessica is finishing her
country album in Nashville," the mouthpiece pooh-poohs to the mag. "They're in
talks with CMT for a special timed to air when the album is released, but
there's no truth whatsoever to there being a reality show."
Eric Dane is in major damage control mode following
last week's OK! cover story detailing his supposed "fight against cancer,"
which, according to the article, involved the removal of some malignant tissue
on his lip, followed by a bad reaction to some prescription lip cream. "Eric
Dane does not have cancer," the "Grey's Anatomy" star's
rep assures Us Weekly. "He spoke with OK! to clear up some inaccuracies they
were planning to run. His story certainly does not compare with those actually
suffering from the disease." McSteamy, adds an insider, was McMortified by the
dramatic cover. "Never in a million years would he have expected they would
exploit his story," rails the source. "He's considering legal action."
In other mountain-out-of-molehill health news, Evangeline Lilly spent some of her recent face-time
with David Letterman bemoaning the hardships she's endured
while filming a hit TV show in a tropical paradise. "I'm allergic to Hawaii,"
kvetched the "Lost" star. "Everything in Hawaii makes me react in
some way. I have spent the last four years with allergic reactions or sick."
Lilly, who on the plus side has moved on from complaining about how difficult it
is to be beautiful, even brought along visual aids. She showed Dave a photo of
her eye looking a little red and puffy (hey, all of you freezing your butts off
in cold climates and hoping for a steady job, arrange a telethon for this woman
already!). "It became like the pink wet flesh around the inside my eye sort of
closing in on my pupil," recalled the perspective-needing actress. "I started to
see fuzzy and everything was out of focus."
Forget Ryan Reynolds' abs of steel -- turns out he's
flexible enough to stick his foot in his mouth. The Scarlett Johansson-romancing actor unwisely jokes to
Parade about co-starring with Julia Roberts in the family drama "Fireflies in the Garden." "I was so excited until I found out
the scenes I have with her are when she's playing my mother," he says. "I was
like, 'Couldn't we have a hot romance instead?'" Reynolds, who is just shy of a
decade younger than Roberts (the flick jumps between two time periods, with the
characters aging accordingly), then adds, "It's so sad. I have to tell my
friends that I'm getting to act with the old Julia Roberts."
