Romance Rumors: Brit's Mystery Man, Gwyneth's Tab Trouble
Spears seen with member of opposite sex, while Paris & Benji are hit with breakup whispers; plus, relationship rumblings with Gwyneth & Chris, baby talk with Nicole and Angelina, and more ...

Britney Spears apparently wasn't exaggerating when she groused in her new documentary that her carefully controlled life lacks "passion" and "excitement." The popster looked beyond bored Monday night as she arrived at a Los Angeles eatery in a Porsche driven by a well-chiseled male model-type reportedly named Marco, an entrance that touched off a paparazzi frenzy that required police assistance. But it seems her subdued mood (and wardrobe, courtesy of a blah brown turtleneck) wasn't due to her date -- because it wasn't a date. E! News identifies Brit's tall, dark and handsome companion as the general manager of the salon owned by stylist Kim Vo, who tends to her problem tresses. Vo downplays that the two are just "good friends" and that there are no romantic overtones. Besides, dinner also included Spears' manager, Larry Rudolph, along with her assistant and several other members of her inner circle. Still, Star is convinced there's something more than friendship and hair-care gab sessions afoot. "It is a fresh relationship, but Marco thinks the world of Britney and Britney really trusts him -- the two have been officially dating for just a few weeks," asserts a source. "It is going really well and both are really happy with one another."

Earlier this year, Gwyneth Paltrow explained to Glamour that the reason she and husband Chris Martin have been repeatedly hit with breakup chatter is that they make a point not to be seen in public together. "We just don't want to be one of those couples," she pronounced. But the pair's efforts to avoid the spotlight have set off another round of tabloid talk about the state of their union. The New York Post notes that the Oscar winner was sans her Coldplay hubby of five years as she hit the Fontainebleau Hotel bash last Friday in Miami Beach, Fla., where she mixed and mingled with Kate Hudson and fellow Madonna confidant Alex Rodriguez in between yanking up her woebegone white minidress. "Gwyneth flew down privately at the behest of [Fontainebleau Resorts owner] Jeff Soffer," a source tells the paper. Paltrow and Hudson, who's back on the market since splitting with Lance Armstrong in July, also apparently joined the moneybags bachelor businessman for a cruise on his yacht the next day. The paper's snitches believe Gwyn's Miami jaunt is telling, with one sniping, "If things were so great with Chris, why wouldn't she be with him?" Another spy offers this dubious assessment of the actress's Miami mindset: "She was very, very thin. She looked stressed out. And she certainly didn't act like a happily married woman." But a Paltrow insider shoots down speculation that she may follow in Madonna's newly single footsteps, pointing out that she and kids Apple, 4, and Moses, 2, joined the on-tour Martin in Dallas on Sunday. As for Soffer, Gwyn's rep tells the paper he's just a pal. Besides, Paltrow may simply be trying to keep busy in light of her rocker half's self-imposed retirement schedule. "I'm 31 now and I don't think that bands should keep going past 33," Martin declares to the London Daily Express. "So, we're trying to pack in as much as possible. Up until the end of next year, we'll just go for it in every sense. I don't believe in time off. We've still got most of our hair, we can still fit into our musical trousers and we've got to make the most of that."

Bill Murray is laughing off reports that he wined and dined Miss USA Crystle Stewart last week in the Windy City. The funnyman, 58, tells the Chicago Sun-Times that he's not wooing the looker, 27, whom he only just met. Seems their supposed dinner date was actually attended by a dozen other guests and Murray had just a quick chat and photo op with Stewart.

Terrence Howard's ouster from "Iron Man" hasn't dinged his confidence with the ladies. The New York Post says the actor was so smitten with French actress-model Noémie Lenoir at the Fontainebleau Hotel soiree in Miami last week that he broke into song. "Terrence saw Noémie in the crowd and started singing to her," a spy tells the paper. "He came to see her the next night at the Victoria's Secret show, and they like each other a lot." No word on whether Lenoir meets Howard's exacting dating standards, which include sharing his comely facial features ("I like women who look like me," he explained to Elle. "Generally, you're attracted to women who look like you, because the most beautiful thing in nature is your own reflection.") and keeping a bathroom well-stocked with baby wipes ("If they're using dry paper, they aren't washing all of themselves. It's just unclean," he ickily spelled out to the mag. "So if I go inside a woman's house and see the toilet paper there, I'll explain this. And if she doesn't make the adjustment to baby wipes, I'll know she's not completely clean").
