Finger-Pointing, Mud-Flinging Begins in Madonna & Guy Split
Madonna and Guy play the blame game; plus, Jennifer and John are back on with a vengeance; the latest in celebrity PDA; Paris' royal booty-shaking and more ...

You know how Madonna and Guy Ritchie asked the media for respect in the wake of their divorce announcement on Wednesday? It's not looking like that's gonna happen, thanks to blabby insiders from both sides, who are packing mudpies and warming up their throwing arms.

In what's shaping up to be Round One of "Who sucked at this marriage thing more?" the London Sun says the Big M, 50, has compiled a litany of complaints against her estranged husband, 40, who it seems wants to leave the reportedly prenup-free union with his pride -- and not much else (word is he's proclaimed he wants "not one penny" -- more on that below).

"The situation is on a knife edge," a mutual pal says of the divorce proceedings. "Guy can't believe some of the things Madonna has said about him. No one knows if this is going to be settled easily or turn into an absolute bloodbath. What started out as love has now ended with real acrimony. It's very, very sad."

According to the paper, Madonna has supposedly been kvetching to friends for months about what she's had to put up with during their seven-year marriage.

Among her supposed "grievances": Ritchie didn't contribute financially to their rarefied lifestyle; he didn't share her devotion to Kabbalah; he didn't get behind her plans to adopt another child from Malawi or her desire to spend more time in New York; he focused too much energy on the London pub they co-owned; and he complained about her globe-trotting fame as his career faltered.

"When Guy heard the reasons Madonna was divorcing him, he hit the roof," a source tells the tab. "He thinks she's trying to make him out to be the villain of the piece. He's incandescent with rage."

And seemingly not without some gripes of his own, including his soon-to-be ex-wife's commitment to her red string-festooned faith, which he never quite cottoned to.

"Guy's initial support and interest in Kabbalah turned to annoyance and hatred," an insider claims to the Sun. "Guy doesn't believe Kabbalah is a religion on a par with Christianity. He thinks a lot of it is hokum, which has infuriated Madonna, who believes it a solution for many of the world's problems."

When asked in August whether he considered himself a Kabbalah follower, Ritchie was upfront about his belief system, opining, "No, I wouldn't, no. I like to think I'm an objective guy. I have sympathies with many philosophies, and I think it'd be a mistake to be a follower of anything, really."

Guy was also said to be fed up with the "three-ring circus" aspect of everyday life with Madonna, according to the London Daily Mirror.

"I just wanted a regular husband-and-wife thing," he's quoted as telling pals. "But it was always a great song and dance just to do ordinary stuff."

What's more, he allegedly groused, "She's obsessed with her own public image, obsessed with being seen as some kind of global soothsayer. It's silly; she's a pop star ... There was a time when she used to have a sense of humor about herself. In the last few years, she just got angry."

Another purported point of contention -- and one that only the very rich have to deal with -- was Madonna's ostensible decision to move two of her most valuable pieces of art, one of which was a Dali, from their London residence to her under-renovation New York apartment, an act a Sun source understatedly calls "a declaration of war."

The Daily Mail claims Madonna told Guy last week that she wanted to settle in Manhattan, and when he refused, she "was incensed, telling him" -- in a very Heidi-Klum-from-"Project-Runway" moment -- "'either you're in or out.'"

But another insider opines to the New York Daily News, "I don't think it was any one incident. It just deteriorated. Their being apart -- her touring, his filming -- added to the strain."

Points out the snitch, "They're both large presences. They both have strong wills. The reason you marry someone sometimes becomes the reason you hate them."

As for Madonna's supposed "affair of the heart" with Alex Rodriguez, whom she was spied sharing a "cozy dinner" with in New York earlier this month, that's also believed to have played into the split.

"There are many issues, and not the least is her strange relationship with Alex Rodriguez," a source explains to People. "It is spiritual, emotional and romantic."

Ritchie, who was spotted on the London set of "Sherlock Holmes" as the breakup news broke, is expected to move out of the palatial London pad he shares with Madonna and their kids -- Lourdes, 12, Rocco, 8, and David, 3 -- and into a home he owns nearby.

But will his move include an armored truck packed with cash?

While the London Daily Mail has speculated that Ritchie could walk away with a record-setting payday, the Sun says he's declared that he wants "not one penny" from his wife's reported $500 million fortune (his personal wealth is believed to be in the still-tony neighborhood of $50 million).

If true, that means Guy is sticking to a pledge he made two weeks before he and Madonna tied the knot at a Scottish castle in 2000, when he maintained he wouldn't touch a cent of her fortune if the marriage fizzled (he even offered to pay her child support).

Not everyone believes that's how things will play out, however.

"Guy wants to make himself out to be a gentleman who's above money," a Madonna pal sneers to the New York Daily News. "If only that was the case. The truth is he's looking for a nice piece of the pie."

A divorce settlement is believed to be in the works (which presumably includes figuring out custody issues), a resolution that would avoid the unpleasant option of heading to court.

"Don't expect this to be a rerun of the Paul McCartney and Heather Mills divorce saga," a mole tells the Daily Mirror. "There won't be any courtroom battles and histrionics -- well not from Guy anyway. He's a good man and has too much respect to let that happen."

The source says the hope is that a deal can be hammered out as cleanly and straightforwardly as possible. Madonna has reportedly retained Fiona Shackleton, who handled McCartney's epically bitter split and Prince Charles' divorce from Princess Diana.

The Daily Mail believes Madonna already made an initial offer to Ritchie that included their country estate, worth around $24 million, along with about $25 million in cash.

"[The divorce] is news to you and everyone else, but for Guy this has been a long time coming," a buddy tells People. "I think he's sort of relieved that it's all out there. He doesn't have to fake it anymore."

The show must go on: Madonna hits the stage in Boston shortly after her publicist confirmed the split. (©AP) More photos

For Madonna, it was business as usual Wednesday night as she hit the stage in Boston with her Sticky & Sweet tour.

Word is she kept her game face on during the performance, with the only hint of the hours-old split news coming during the song "Miles Away," which she introduced -- as she's done at previous shows -- by saying it goes out to the "emotionally retarded."

"You may know a few people like that," Madonna told the crowd. "God knows I do."

Earlier this year, she told Elle that Ritchie helped inspire the tune, which deals with the pitfalls of long-distance relationships.

Sample lyrics: "You always love me more, miles away/I hear it in your voice, we're miles away/You're not afraid to tell me, miles away/I guess we're at our best when we're miles away. ... When I'm gone you'll realize/That I'm the best thing that happened to you."

And finally, Madonna's bad week just got a little worse, thanks to the New York Daily News, which has branded her new movie, "Filth and Wisdom," "perhaps one of the worst directorial debuts in history."

According to the paper, the comedy is "an atrocious mess that feels like it was written by the Madonna character in 'Desperately Seeking Susan' and directed by the Madonna character in 'Who's That Girl.'"
