The music: Now in its 51st year, the Monterey Jazz Festival
is as vibrant as ever, showcasing a wide range of music that has evolved out of
the jazz medium. On 20 acres, more than 500 artists play on nine stages. In
addition, the festival organizes panel discussions and exhibitions, a wealth of
food options and an entire day-Sept. 21-devoted to children's activities such as
the Percussion Playshop and Jazzy Jumper, all geared to get kids started early
on a love of music.
