The music: The granddaddy of alternative music festivals
returns to Chicago's Grant Park, having aged quite well. The lineup here is
truly stunning in its diversity and depth, with a perfectly calibrated sampling
of all the facets of the modern-rock world. Living deities such as Radiohead and
Nine Inch Nails sidle up next to indie kings such as Broken Social Scene and
Stephen Malkmus. 1980s legends Love and Rockets share the bill with
cooler-than-thou chanteuse Cat Power. And rap superstars Kanye West and Lupe
Fiasco bring the hip-hop thunder. In addition, approximately 20 other bands
round out the roster.
