The Country Music Association touts the CMA Festival as "4 days, 30 hours of
autograph signings, 100 hours of live music, 400 country music artists and
celebrities, and thousands of revved up music lovers," a party line that
actually understates the scope of this annual Nashville pilgrimage. Founded in
1972 as Fan Fair, the bash is unique among live music gatherings for its
emphasis on bringing listeners in direct contact with their favorite artists.
Last year's festival broke attendance records to draw 191,000 visitors, and the
2008 edition, running from June 4 through 8, boasts another strong lineup.
