THE CHIEFTAINS can lay claim to playing really old school country—the traditional Celtic music they championed from the '60s onward is nothing less than the rootstock for the Appalachian ballads, jigs and reels that in turn shaped country and bluegrass.  Their collaboration ... morewith country veterans including Willie Nelson, Emmylou Harris and Ricky Skaggs for 1992's "Another Country" snagged a Grammy, and the Irish ensemble again nodded toward country on 1995's "Long Black Veil" in the company of rock and pop icons including Mick Jagger, Sting and Tom Jones.
