Blues by Five
Born: Jan 1, 1961
Died: Jan 1, 1965
Styles: British Blues, Blues-Rock
Biography
Considering that they cut a single for English Decca in 1964, when the whole British blues scene was booming in London, amazingly little is known about this outfit. They may (or may not) be descended from the same "Blues By Five" band that Charlie Watts exited, for a gig with Alexis Korner, in 1961. The Decca connection is tantalizing as a possibly meaningless clue, but they definitely had a preference for the real article, covering John Lee Hooker's "Boom Boom" in a suitable raw version in 1964 before disappearing. (And vis-à-vis the possible distant Charlie Watts connection, "Blues By Five" sounds like a name the Rolling Stones might've chosen in less imaginative and daring circumstances?) ~ Bruce Eder, All Music Guide
