Brooklyn native
Bad Boy Joe is a remixer/producer/DJ who lives a double life, spinning glittery freestyle one night and tribal-house the next. Excited by the music of
the Latin Rascals and
Chep Nunez,
Bad Boy Joe (born
Joe Marcano) bought his first pair of turntables in 1998. He made mixtapes for friends, and their enthusiasm influenced
Joe to take it to the next level. He bought a used reel-to-reel, some razor blades, and a ton of Scotch tape and started remixing and re-editing tracks. His DJing and remixing skills brought him to the attention of
Louie DeVito, who hired
Joe to help with his
NYC Underground Party mix series. In 2000 he struck out on his own with his first
Best of Freestyle Megamix, with
Vol. 2 appearing a year later and
Vol. 3 and
Vol. 4 both landing in 2003.
Joe got to show his other side in 2002 with his
Ultimate House Megamix release, followed in 2004 by the more tribal-house
Best of NYC Afterhours: Feel the Drums.
Bad Boy Joe also runs his own label, What If Productions, with partner Gene Rombola. ~ David Jeffries, All Music Guide
