Tim McGraw's publicist plays down fan slap video

Tim Mcgraw's publicist is playing down video footage posted online that appears to show the country star slapping a female fan at a concert.

The footage was taken at a show in Atlanta on Sunday while McGraw was walking onstage near the audience.

Reports suggest he turned on the unnamed fan after she grabbed his jeans, but his publicist tells TMZ the incident looked a lot worse than it was, stating, "Tim was singing out in the audience and someone firmly grabbed onto his leg and wouldn't let go as he was moving through the crowd. He instinctively swatted to try to keep them from ripping his jeans, which they succeeded at doing, and so he could get to more fans who could slap hands with him before the end of the show."

Tim had every right to knock her away.  She knew exactly what she was trying to do.  This could have caused a riot and people could have been hurt.  Way to go Tim.

When someone assaults you by trying to tear your clothing, a person is within their rights to defend themselves. While I can relate to the temptation to reach out & touch Mr McGraw & to the attempt to hold on to him to prevent him from walking away, especially after paying the cost of a concert ticket, the fact is that he is a married man with children; and, being a very successful country singer doesn't give hormonal women the right to a touchy-feelie jean ripping assault upon any entertainer. It's about time that they were sent the message that if you can't control yourself, don't shake hands with the entertainer on the stage.

What's wrong with people?
Could she not have gone to the concert without acting like an **** by hanging onto the guy and nearly making him trip?
It's idiotic to keep harping about somebody behaving badly... once again in public... and then complaining.
He didn't bunch her in the head. He appears to reach out to slap her grasp away.
Move on.

A quick shot to the forehead would have been more appropritate, she assaulted him, self defense.

After looking at the video, it appears that he reached back to hit the woman after he had pried himself loose. Perhaps it was in the heat of the moment, which you can understand.  Still, the extra follow through was probably not necessary.

That said, I think in a chaotic situation like that, if you are a fan and you "step over the line", you should not be upset or surprised at the reaction.  Entertainers on the level of Tim McGraw have to deal with constant media attention, compounded by encounters with irrational fans and (I would imagine) even death threats on a regular basis. People under that kind of scrutiny are bound to snap occasionally, especially if they are in a vulnerable position.  If the woman would have simply let  go of his jeans and backed off (like the rest of the fans around him) this would be a non story.
