Rapper and reggae artist Snoop Dogg has been granted an Australian work visa, despite efforts to ban him from the land Down Under.
Thousands of Australians signed a petition calling for officials to revoke the hip-hop icon's visa ahead of his upcoming tour, which begins in Brisbane on Saturday and includes a set at the Big Day Out festival.
The activists, led by feminist Talitha Stone, claimed Snoop Dogg's lyrics "glorify violence against women which puts all women in danger."
Stone added, "There should be no place for recording artists who glorify misogyny and degrade women for entertainment."
But her bid to ban the rapper from Australia has fallen through and Snoop has been granted a work visa, allowing his tour to go ahead.
Immigration minister Scott Morrison announced the news on Wednesday, declaring, "Snoop Dogg has a visa."
Last year, Australian police launched an investigation into claims rapper Tyler, The Creator verbally abused Talitha Stone during a foul-mouthed rant at his gig in Sydney after she launched a similar campaign to have him banned from performing Down Under.
