Veteran British DJ Dave Lee Travis compared his battle against sex abuse charges to a bloodsport after appearing in court on Friday (23Aug13). The former BBC Radio 1 stalwart is facing accusations he carried out 12 sex attacks on nine women as young as 15 between 1977 and 2007.
He has previously insisted he is innocent of any wrongdoing, and following a brief appearance at a court in London on Friday, the presenter bizarrely compared his legal battle with hare coursing, in which wild animals are hunted down using dogs.
Speaking outside court after the hearing, Lee Travis said, "I will say one thing here, alright? I am supported by my wife and my friends, and my wife is not here today. And the reason she is not here today is I detest hare coursing. Okay?"
The broadcaster, who was a familiar voice on Radio 1 for more than 25 years, was arrested in November (12) after allegations were made about him to cops probing sex abuse claims against late presenter Sir Jimmy Savile.
