Holly Robinson Peete wants J. Cole to apologize for lyrics

WENN

Holly Robinson Peete has criticized rapper J. Cole following his controversial reference to autism in his new collaboration with Drake.

Find: Actress talks about son's autism

The actress, whose eldest son Rodney Jr. is autistic, was furious when she heard the lyrics to the pair's track "Jodeci Freestyle," which pokes fun at the condition in a line which reads, "Go check the numbers dummy, that's just me gettin' started/ I'm artistic, you n**gas is autistic, retarded."

Now Peete has taken aim at the 28-year-old rapper for setting a bad example.

More: Could rap lyrics shift after Lil Wayne, Rick Ross mishaps?

She told "Access Hollywood," "This was first brought to my attention by my son, who is 15, with autism, loves J.Cole, loves Drake. He brought it (up) to me, because he looks at all the lyrics. He said, 'Mom what does this mean?' And I was so devastated when I read it, I had to read it like five times and try to find some other context where this could make sense, 'cause everything I know about J. Cole is that he's a very intelligent man, he went to college, he graduated top of his class. He's a very smart rapper and I understand the artistic expression and everything, but this right here is so irresponsible. It hurt my feelings so much."

Choking back tears, she called on J. Cole to apologize for using the derogatory language. She added, "I just don't (think) these artists know how powerful (they are)... because my son is struggling to fit in, and I mean struggling, so when I see an artist, with this kind of following, who is writing not just autistic, but trying to make it the new r-word, (it) is not going to happen on our watch... I hope he apologizes and I hope he takes it out (of the song)."

This isn't the first time Peete has taken aim at a rapper over an inappropriate use of words -- she previously targeted 50 Cent after he called a Twitter user autistic last year during an argument online.

I'm a firm believer in free speech, but you still have to own what you say, and using these kinds of lyrics makes you a complete insensitive a..hole.

SORRY TO REPOST BUT I AM SICK OF SO-CALLED-CELEBRITIES THINKING THAT THEY SHOULD GET THEIR WAY! You are people just like us. We are bothered that so many of us are losing homes, having a hard time making ends meet, etc...BUT DOES THAT MEAN BECAUSE WE DEMAND THE RAPPERS OR ANYONE ELSE SHARE WITH US...THEY SHOULD?

I HAVE A DAUGHTER WITH DWARFISM, SHE IS A LITTLE PERSON. SOME CALL THEM MIDGETS...WHATEVER YOUR MENTALITY ALLOWS YOU TO CALL IT, WE DON'T CARE. WE TAUGHT HER FROM DAY 1 THAT SHE WOULD HEAR JOKES ON TV, SEE PEOPLE LIKE HER IN CIRCUSES, HEAR LYRICS IN SONGS, ETC. WE LET HER KNOW THAT IT WAS NOTHING PERSONAL AND THAT EVERYONE HAS THE RIGHT TO THEIR OWN OPINIONS. SO WHEN SHE DID ENCOUNTER THESE THINGS, THEY MEANT NOTHING! PEOPLE NEED TO STOP BEING SO SENSITIVE. HOLLY ONLY WANTS AND THINKS SOMEONE SHOULD LISTEN TO HER BECAUSE OF HER STATUS. GET OVER IT. TEACH YOUR KIDS, EXPOSE THEM YOURSLVES. STOP SHELTERING THEM, POP THE BUBBLE YOU'VE GOT THEM IN AND TEACH THEM SO WHEN THEY HEAR SOMETHING THEY WON'T TAKE IT PERSONAL. THIS GOES FOR MOVIES, VIDEO GAMES, ETC. LET THEM KNOW THAT YOU ARE ALWAYS THERE TO GUIDE THEM AND LET THEM KNOW WHAT IS RIGHT AND WRONG. YOU CAN'T STOP IT AND YOU SURE CAN'T RUN FROM IT!

Sorry, freedom of speech.  Your not supposed to like everything you hear.  It may not be in good taste but its his right.  If we all thought the same and liked the same things the world would be a boring place.  Is that what politically correct America wants?  F the PC.
