Amy Adams wants to break voice for Janis Joplin movie

Actress Amy Adams has been shrieking and screaming in a bid to break her voice so she can accurately recreate Janis Joplin's gravelly vocals in an upcoming biopic.

Adams has been cast as the tragic rock icon in "Janis Joplin: Get It While You Can," but she is concerned her singing will not match up to the singer's famous voice. She has been desperately trying to develop rasping tones by shouting and screaming, but still fears directors will have to bring in a professional singer to help perfect the sound.

Adams tells Britain's The Times, "I've been working on my rasp. Just by tearing up my voice. I'm going to try to do as much singing as I can. But I'm also realistic, and I might need some assistance."

Joplin died aged 27 in 1970 from a drug overdose.

The best singer for the part is the incredible Cathy Richardson.  She's a Janis, Grace Slick, and Stevie Nix all rolled-into-one.

I don't know what those posting here are thinking, or ms adams and her director for that matter. Janis had a great voice, clear and powerful, with near perfect diction. She lived hard, and obviously invested herself in her music, but the quality of her voice was never in question.

She's far too cute to be Janis! Janis was a rough looking as well as sounding woman!

I think Janis would be very pleased that to be played by Amy.
