Eric Avery quits Nine Inch Nails

WENN

Bassist Eric Avery has quit Trent Reznor's Nine Inch Nails revamp. The former Jane's Addiction member has parted ways with the band before a planned reunion tour, so he can concentrate on other projects in Los Angeles.

In a post on his Facebook page, Avery writes, "it's with very mixed emotions i tell you all that im pulling out of NIN. i know. its been a tough call and i don't know if its the right one. but i really want to focus on my musical life here in la, on film work in particular. as the tour dates kept growing... i just got overwhelmed. i just got home from a year of heavy travel with garbage, the idea of leaving town for another year and a half, and with all the intensity that nails demands... ."

He adds, "fortunately my friend Trent understands all this and appreciated my pulling the plug now instead of deep into 2013 and 14. go get em gentlemen." Nine Inch Nails' world tour begins at Japan's Fuji Rock Festival on July 26. Reznor will be joined by King Crimson's Adrian Belew, Josh Eustis, Alessandro Cortini and Ilan Rubin.

How is he a wuss, exactly? NIN is basically a project, not a long-term band affiliation.  If he's having to say no to some projects he really wants to do, or that may be lucrative in the long term, because a temporary gig is going to longer than expected? Trent Reznor hasn't toured in years for the very same reasons, and it sounds to me like, since he was able to leave that it very well may be an open-door policy for all of them. As far as I'm concerned Reznor is NIN. He will surround himself with amazing talent no matter who comes and goes on this tour (although I do hope Belew is still with the tour when I see them).

Is the writer a Jane's Addiction fan or something?  Nobody cares who Trent Reznor's backup band members are. He's the whole phucking show.
