Emeli Sandé breaks Beatles' UK chart record

Scottish singer Emeli Sandé has made U.K. chart history by breaking a record held by the Beatles for almost 50 years.

Bing: Sandé eyes U.S. market

The singer's first album, "Our Version of Events," has spent more time in the U.K. top 10 than any other debut album after notching up 63 consecutive weeks on the U.K.'s Official Albums Chart.

The Beatles previously held the record with their 1963 album "Please Please Me," which spent 62 weeks in the top 10 in 1963 and 1964. Sandé tells the Official Charts Company, "It feels quite surreal. To even have your name mentioned in the same sentence as the Beatles is quite mad. ... For a record to stay there for so long, it means that people have connected with it, and that's how I'm kind of enjoying and celebrating this record."

Of course Sande', like most acts, will never have the cultural impact of the Beatles. I haven't heard the whole album yet, but it broke their record for a reason: Sande' and here associates did something right by the audience that in the long run will at least leave a handprint.

This is great news. She is a talented singer and songwriter. I heard the song Next to Me while watching some show on VH1, and fell in love. I purchased the cd the next day, and no regrets. The entire cd is very good, reminiscent of Corinne Bailey Rae's first cd. I don't think the sample you get from iTunes does it justice. You have to hear the whole song and the lyrics. Soooo good.

No one is comparing the quality and longevity of Beatles and Sande, only that she made history by staying on the charts for more weeks. That's a wonderful accomplishment. She may never have as many albums as the Beattles (hopefully so), but give credit where it's due. Go Emeli!

No one will ever beat the Beatles for the time or their music.  Listen to any form of music and the artist still play their music.  Jazz, rock, hillbilly, country, pop, and everything else.  Rap is not music.  Even Ray charles said it may be poetry but there is no music involved.
