Hindus urge Selena Gomez to apologize for bindi usage

Hindu leaders in America have demanded an apology from Selena Gomez after she performed "Come & Get It" at the MTV Movie Awards with a religious bindi symbol on her forehead.

Officials at the Universal Society of Hinduism have branded the performance "insensitive," and have urged her not to repeat it as she plans for an upcoming world tour.

Hindu statesman Rajan Zed tells WENN, " The bindi on the forehead is an ancient tradition in Hinduism and has religious significance. It is also sometimes referred to as the third eye and the flame, and it is an auspicious religious and spiritual symbol ... It is not meant to be thrown around loosely for seductive effects or as a fashion accessory aiming at mercantile greed.

"Selena should apologize and then she should get acquainted with the basics of world religions."

Gomez has also come under fire for her alleged culturally insensitive performance at the awards ceremony on Sunday from her Twitter followers, who went public with their outrage.

In a post, one fan wrote, "Selena Gomez the bindi is not just some fashion accessory you can throw on, cultural appropriation man," while another added, "Selena Gomez, take that bindi of your head, cultural appropriation is not cute."

A third follower said, "CULTURAL APPROPRIATION AT IT'S FINEST, MY RESPECT FOR SELENA IS FADING AS WE SPEAK," while a fourth viewer tweeted, "@selenagomez Hi, leave Bindis for Indian women."

The 20-year-old has yet to respond to the criticism.

She looks hot in that Bindi. At least an amercian is caring our Hindi culture. Since its a fashion every one has right to do so. Rajen Zed just needs to stop the indian drama if cann't do so than go back to india and tell all the indian girls who dress, talk and walk like Americans. don't forget to tell the movie productions companies to stop coping Americans. There you have the reality check.

Ok these so-called American Hindu's need to remember that they are in America and in America we have what is known as religious freedom, If anyone one should have anything to complain about is the rest of us Americans who have to listen to this garbage. If we go over to their countries of origin we are to follow their laws and traditions. So why then, when they come over here, don't they have to follow our laws and traditions? If a woman goes to one of these Arabic countries  they are to follow that country's traditions of covering their faces. Yet when they come to America they continue observing their customs from their country here in our country? The first thing I guess that I would have to ask, is are the women in those countries that ugly that they need to hide their faces in public? I doubt it.

Selena, It's my opinion that if you are an American and believe in the American way of life, then no don't back down with your thoughts of wearing that and don't even come close to apologizing for being American! Stand up to these other countries, religions, and what ever else these people of different beliefs have. Don't let them push you around, you have the clout to be able to dish it out! So, like Nike says, "Just Do It!"

Sorry, did she for get to ask? Or pay out like MC D's did for not using Halal meat. ( for whom the person still ate and is still alive; and we know that they are. They did sue  Mc D's. Funny their "GOD" did not take them out for it. Maybe just gave them a little gas from it...LOL )  What you take in won't kill you. What you dwell on only lets you forget your not American but just another someone to Bitch in this country. Why don't we as a whole do just like Pepsi did to Madonna years ago?  If one never opens their eyes to freedom of speech how can we except those to open to freedom of  religions in this county and understanding them as a whole? More people will look  up Hindus-em on the net now then ever before because she made such a beautiful gesture to the culture and the women.  I bet you see more people wearing Jewels on their forehead this summer then ever before. So why not cash in on it and make a whole line for the people to wear? Or just teach them the meaning if that is what you mean indeed.
