The Vito Russo Award is presented to an openly lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgender media professional who has made "a significant difference in promoting equality." The award is named for Vito Russo, a founder of the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation.
Previous Vito Russo honorees include Ricky Martin, Rosie O'Donnell, Alan Cumming, Cynthia Nixon, Nathan Lane, Cherry Jones, Elton John and Tom Ford.
"Madonna has been a passionate spokesperson and longtime supporter of gay rights," GLAAD president Herndon Graddick said. "She has embraced LGBT people around the world on many occasions. From speaking out against bullying to raising support for marriage equality, Madonna has always been one of our community's strongest allies. We are honored to have her stand with GLAAD and Anderson Cooper."
I am so very, very sick of this s__t. So you say you want to be treated equally? I submit that you do not, in fact, want to be treated equally. You want to be treated SPECIAL, as indicated by the constant back-slapping, awards, and cries for attention. Guess what? NO ONE GIVES A S__T THAT YOU'RE GAY! I don't agree with ANYONE being bullied for ANY reason, but haven't we gone out of our way to make LGBTs, and many others, feel better about themselves for long enough? OK, we (heterosexuals) accept you. Now will you please shut up?! And if that doesn't resolve the issue, then how about heterosexuals congratulate themselves via awards, groups, committees, social events, etc., so that we are ALL, indeed, equal? Would that be OK? I'm guessing "NO".
