The Vito Russo Award is presented to an openly lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgender media professional who has made "a significant difference in promoting equality." The award is named for Vito Russo, a founder of the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation.

Previous Vito Russo honorees include Ricky Martin, Rosie O'Donnell, Alan Cumming, Cynthia Nixon, Nathan Lane, Cherry Jones, Elton John and Tom Ford.

"Madonna has been a passionate spokesperson and longtime supporter of gay rights," GLAAD president Herndon Graddick said. "She has embraced LGBT people around the world on many occasions. From speaking out against bullying to raising support for marriage equality, Madonna has always been one of our community's strongest allies. We are honored to have her stand with GLAAD and Anderson Cooper."

I just wonder what on God's green earth would make somebody so hatefully and tenaciously against a topic/group of people/social movement/entertainer(s) take even ONE SECOND out of their day to read and respond to an article about same.  Life, you bald-faced hypocrites, is much too short.  Take all the minutes you plan to waste and go back to school.  Learn something about the world you live in.

I don't care if you are gay, democrat, anti-gun, racist, socialist, whatever, keep it to yourself.  We have heard it non stop about all these politically correct, feel good, its the right thing to do even if it won't work, punish the innocent, not the criminal, anti-pro-life b.s. that the left keep forcing america to take note.  Keep it to your self.  I have a right to believe to what I want to believe.  Dislike what I want to dislike.  Support all of the constitution if I want, not just the parts you say I should.  If they are so confused about what they want, that they have to have the world accept what they are and what they do then they should rethink about what it is that they have such low self esteem and self respect that they need to try and force the rest of us to agree.  I for one, will never agree or support them.

I like Anderson Cooper but why? He didn't even come out until recently that he is gay. There are so many other media people that have been upfront about their sexuality and been as equally an advocate of the LGBT community. Glad to see Madonna will present the award.

I am so very, very sick of this s__t.  So you say you want to be treated equally?  I submit that you do not, in fact, want to be treated equally.  You want to be treated SPECIAL, as indicated by the constant back-slapping, awards, and cries for attention.  Guess what?  NO ONE GIVES A S__T THAT YOU'RE GAY!  I don't agree with ANYONE being bullied for ANY reason, but haven't we gone out of our way to make LGBTs, and many others, feel better about themselves for long enough?  OK, we (heterosexuals) accept you.  Now will you please shut up?!  And if that doesn't resolve the issue, then how about heterosexuals congratulate themselves via awards, groups, committees, social events, etc., so that we are ALL, indeed, equal?  Would that be OK?  I'm guessing "NO".
