The acclaimed MC, real name Tariq Trotter, has previously displayed his singing skills on various releases by the Grammy-winning hip-hop band, but now he is planning to branch out on his own and tackle a difference genre of music.

"I just started writing a couple of weeks ago for a blues album, kinda, that I'm going to be singing on," he said. "I don't know what it's gonna be called, but it might be called 'The Talented Mr. Trotter.'" Black Thought reveals he has recruited R&B singer Raheem DeVaughn to duet with on the project, while he will be penning tracks with unlikely collaborators Tunde Adebimpe and Jim James, the frontman of rock group My Morning Jacket.

"I'mma (sic) be in the studio this week writing with my friend Tunde from a band called TV on the Radio," he said. "I'mma be doing some stuff with Jim James from My Morning Jacket. Just some stuff that I feel like I need to get out that is kind of aside from the new Roots record."
