Future and Lil Wayne remix pulled due to Emmett Till reference

WENN

Record label bosses have issued a public apology following the accidental leak of a Future and Lil Wayne track containing a controversial reference to murdered African-American teen Emmett Till.

Bing: More on 'Karate Chop' controversy

The unauthorized remix of "Karate Chop," by hip-hop star Future, features a verse by Lil Wayne in which he raps about 14-year-old Till, who was beaten and shot to death in Mississippi in 1955 for allegedly flirting with a white woman.

On Wednesday, Epic Records executives apologized and vowed to remove the song from the Internet.

"We regret the unauthorized remix version of Future's Karate Chop, which was leaked online and contained hurtful lyrics," said a statement from the label. "Out of respect for the legacy of Emmett Till and his family ... we are going through great efforts to take down the unauthorized version."

According to a message posted on the Mamie Till Mobley Memorial Foundation's Facebook page, Epic CEO Antonio 'L.A.' Reid also personally reached out to the family to extend his apologies.

The post from the charity, named after Emmett's mother, reads, "Mr. Reid stated the song was leaked out and he had not heard the lyrics. He is a man of integrity that values our family's legacy and wouldn't allow such heinous usage of Emmett Till's name or dishonor his memory."

"On a remix to Future's song "Karate Chop," Lil Wayne compared a rough sex act to the tortuous death of 14-year-old Till in Mississippi, an incident that ultimately helped change the national conversation on race. Following a crude reference to rough sex, Lil Wayne indicates that he wanted to do as much damage as had been done to Till." What kind of trashy **** song is this. The music industry will process anything that will make them money and apparently they know that sex is GOLD. All of you artist out there promoting sex, violence, drugs, etc., in such a graphic manner that will make a porn star blush, need to step back and really listen to what you are singing.

Over 50 years after it happened, the murder of Emmett Till is still a sore spot with a lot of people (and I am white and was born close to a decade after that happened).  It is certainly a black mark on the state of Mississippi and on the South.  The worst part is that those who did got off scot free.
