David Bowie demands EMI pull photo from Morrissey single

David Bowie has asked EMI UK producers not to use a photograph of him with Morrissey as the cover art for the reissue of The Smiths' "The Last Of The Famous International Playboys" single.

The 1989 track will be re-released in April as part of a new Morrissey retrospective package, but it won't feature an iconic Linder Sterling shot of the Panic singer with his hero.

Bowie has demanded that EMI execs pull plans to use the photo.

A statement from EMI reads: "David Bowie has ordered EMI UK not to run the proposed artwork for Morrissey's April 8th issue of the re-mastered The Last of the Famous International Playboys single and CD. Although Bowie has no legal rights to the photograph, most of his back catalogue is presently licensed to EMI."

It is not clear why Bowie and his management team have asked for the photo to be removed from the cover.

1.  "Last Of The International Playboys" single is not a Smiths song.  It was on Morrissey's 1990 compilation album "Bona Drag".

2. I do not blame David Bowie.... Morrissey completely insulted or offended him in his documentary or even during there tour together.  It is not that I disagree with Morrissey.... but why would he or his team do  something so stupid as to post a picture of them together on his upcoming (package)!

completely hypocritical.

It does not matter to me because they are both irrelevant now.

As long as Morrissey finishes his stuff for THE WALKING DEAD. That's what I care about the most!

Following on from Someone's comment below, there's also the fact that Morrisey has shown himself to be an incomparable t*sser on numerous occasions since the photograph was taken
