Billy Joel abandoned plans to write his memoirs when publishers began marketing the very idea of the book too aggressively. The Piano Man singer handed back the advance cash he had been given to write about his life when he realised publishing bosses wanted more than he was prepared to reveal. He tells Rolling Stone magazine, "I didn't think of it as a tell-all so when I saw the publishing company hyping it as 'all about his drinking, his divorce and his depression,' I said, 'Nah, I don't want to do this. Here's the money back.'"
