Backstreet Boys, NKOTB not responsible for stagehand injury

WENN

Backstreet Boys and New Kids On The Block are in the clear after a judge dismissed a $5 million lawsuit filed against the bands by an injured stagehand.

William Wesley Styron was setting up for the pop groups' joint concert at the FedExForum in Memphis in June last year when he allegedly stumbled and plunged 13 feet to the ground.

In his lawsuit, Styron claimed he fractured his skull and sustained a "traumatic brain injury" in the fall but the bands insisted the accident was his own fault for failing to look where he was going.

Maryland District Court Judge J. Frederick Motz ruled in favor of the musicians last month, stating responsibility for the accident lies with the company that hired Styron, Crew One Productions Inc.

Judge Motz dismissed the lawsuit against the bands.

I was in Lowe's store a year ago and turned my head to look at the shelf displays. I continued walking forward, however, and promptly smashed my forehead into a metal support pole, one of those 6 x 6 steel poles that go up to the ceiling. I drew blood and had to get a few stitches. I mentioned this incident to a friend of mine who said "Sue them!" But I said, "What for? It was my fault! I walked into the damn pole while not looking where I was going!" Yet many in the U.S. are awfully quick to sue, sue, sue!

Would think thatr those who bring frivolous lawsuits should pay costs of innocent party in defending the suit.

I think all employees, including contractors, should be covered by the employer during the time of employment.  Also, employer should provide such safety gear as a hard hat, and padded attire for the stage crew.  These are the basic safety equipment that is covered by OSHA!

Ummm clumsy man? you DO have insurance with your hiring company ..don't you?. No one pushed you, and there is no evidence of unsafe work environment. Judge Motz ruled correctly. BLAME YOURSELF and get over it.
