The singer died in a plane crash in Mexico on December 9, and stars including
Eva Longoria, Jennifer Lopez and Ricky Martin rushed to pay tribute. Now fans
have given Rivera a posthumous chart boost -- her new hits compilation "La
Misma Gran Senora" debuts in the top spot with 27,000 units sold. Editors at
Billboard.com report her 2011 releases "Joyas Prestadas: Pop" and "Joyas
Prestadas: Banda" round out the top three, selling 14,000 and 13,000 copies
respectively.
Rivera will be remembered in a public memorial at Los Angeles' Gibson
Amphitheatre on Wednesday morning. Fan tickets for the tribute were snapped
up in under an hour. Previous reports suggest the memorial will feature a
star-studded line-up, including appearances by rapper Snoop Dogg (aka Snoop
Lion), Rivera's longtime friend Gloria Estefan and actor Edward James Olmos, who
co-starred in the singer's debut film, "Filly Brown."
