Paul McCartney has finally achieved his dream of appearing in his favorite comic book, nearly 50 years after he declared it as his lifetime ambition.
The Beatles star has been a lifelong fan of British children's comic "The Dandy," and in a 1963 interview with U.K. magazine NME, McCartney stated his "personal ambition" was to "have my picture in 'The Dandy.'"
Editors at the publication recently announced the upcoming December edition would be the last-ever print installment of "The Dandy" before it moves online, and after hearing the news, McCartney wrote to them to ask a favor. His note read: "The Dandy was a favorite comic of mine when growing up in Liverpool, and each week I would look forward to the exploits of Desperate Dan and his other comic book colleagues. I feel a little sadness that I see its final issue is appearing in December. In 1963, in the NME, when asked what my personal ambition was, I replied -- to have my picture in The Dandy! I hope it's not too late!"
Editors of "The Dandy" granted his wish, and McCartney appears in a comic strip along with his favorite character Desperate Dan.
The comic's print editor, Craig Graham, says: "When the decision was taken to stop printing 'The Dandy' and take it online earlier this year, it really was a case of now or never. Sir Paul wrote a lovely letter to us, wishing 'The Dandy' well, and hoping it wasn't too late to make an appearance. How could we refuse?"
What is his point in wanting to be in this comic book ? Here is a guy that has been the most photgraphed and recognized person in the last 48 years and he still has not had enough of himself !!!
