Shakira sued by ex-boyfriend for $100 million

Pop star Shakira is facing a $100 million lawsuit from her ex-boyfriend over allegations their business partnership went bad after their relationship came to an end.

The Colombian singer ended her romance with Antonio de la Rua in 2010 after more than 10 years as a couple, but in a public statement, they vowed to remain friends and continue as business partners. However, the friendship now appears to have turned sour, as de la Rua has filed a lawsuit in New York accusing his ex-girlfriend of breaking a promise to continue paying him a share of her business profits.

De la Rua, son of former Argentina President Fernando de la Rua, has filed legal documents at Manhattan Supreme Court in New York, claiming the singer asked him to take over "the business behind the Shakira brand" and he went on to secure her a $300 million deal with tour promoters Live Nation. He claims their business partnership continued for a year after their romantic relationship broke down, but he was fired in 2011, according to the New York Post.

De la Rua is demanding $100 million from his former girlfriend. Shakira is now dating Spanish soccer star Gerard Pique, and the couple recently announced they are expecting a baby together.

Most of the time "verbal contracts" are only legal in say a tenant/landlord situation, in this case he may just get laughed at by the judge by even filing the case in the first place, since it is verbal the judge may see it as only hear say and dismiss the case anyway. He is just jealous that she is pregnant and its not his baby!

She was a star before she ever even met him, a couple of multi-platinum albums and the like, and seems to be doing just fine without him since she landed a high paying gig on The Voice. He filed another suit in Europe trying to get money from the romantic relationship that obviously didn't stick so he's trying again in the U.S. using another angle. HE recently knocked another girl up and I can't help but think that that contributed to this in some way. Unless there was some kind of written agreement I don't see how he gets anything as I'm sure he wasn't working for free the whole time and was getting money all along. The fact that he's a son of that particular Argentinean president isn't doing him any favors in the court of opinion since Fernando crashed the economy, was forced out of office after two years and is currently on trial for bribing senators for votes while he was in office. Antonio of course was his campaign manager and heavily influenced his father. Nice family.

I would have to say look at those documents on their separation. What and if his claims are valid in what he brought to her rising to the star she is, and his impact for her brand following. You will have to also look at any agreement / bonding documents once their relationship went sour, and what, if any, negotiations or agreements had been agreed on between them in him receiving future royalties.

If there is any evidence, for him, then she will have to pay up. If there isn't any such agreements then will have a difficult time in showing validity in why he should be paid. Now, he was still employed with some form of agreement, obviously, or otherwise he would have exited when they fell out as a couple.

Hey Shakira, did you have in writting that you would pay your ex boy friend back from the profits from your business dealing. If you can't pay him back all you have to do is declare "Bankruptcy". that always works.

Sounds to me like he can't make it on his own and he needs her to keep up HIS lifestyle.  Get a life and be satisfied with what you had and had!!!!!
