South Korean pop sensation PSY's global hit "Gangnam Style" has smashed a world record to become the most popular video in YouTube history.
The singer was presented with a certificate by Guinness World Records in London on Thursday for the achievement.
Since its release in July, the much-parodied online sensation has held off competition from singers Justin Bieber and Adele to receive 4,919,843 "likes" (as of Thursday morning) on the video-sharing website. Receiving the award, PSY says, "I'm honored. This is the first certificate I've ever had ... I didn't get one at school."
Guinness World Records editor-in-chief Craig Glenday says, "I think PSY looked touched to receive his certificate. He even asked if he could keep it! We're pleased to present his official certificate to such a global phenomenon. 'Gangnam Style' is an infectious, joyous song that has brought a smile to the faces of a 10th of the world's population, and the result is that it's the most 'liked' video of any kind in the history of YouTube!"
