Surf guitar star Eddie Bertrand dead at 67

Surf guitar pioneer Eddie Bertrand has died, aged 67. He passed away on Saturday after a fight with cancer.

The Bel-Airs star is perhaps best remembered for co-writing and performing on 1962 surf-rock hit "Mr. Moto." Bertrand became a staple of the California rock scene throughout the 1960s, also fronting Eddie and the Showmen.

He was a regular performer until 2010, when he fell and broke both his hips.

That's a shame - he was so young.  
That sound was so innovative and catchy.  I think it would be fun if a modern artist/guitar player could bring it back in a new song, as a tribute perhaps.
