Rihanna: I didn't think Chris Brown collaboration would be controversial

Rihanna has told the British edition of Esquire that she did not think her recent collaboration with her abusive ex-boyfriend Chris Brown would be controversial. "The whole thing caught me a little off-guard, to be honest," she said. "Especially the amount of negative attention. Because it never occurred to me how this was going to be a problem, you know. It really didn't."

Rihanna shocked fans in February by appearing on two tracks with Brown, a remix of her own song "Birthday Cake" and a new version of his recent single "Turn Up the Music." The songs were released simultaneously, with the heavy implication that the two had reconciled their differences after Brown served his time for assaulting the pop star on the eve of the Grammys in 2009.

"I thought people were gonna be surprised that we finally did a record together, but I didn't see how people could think it was a bad thing, you know?," Rihanna told Esquire. "In my mind, it was just music." When the interviewer noted that some fans felt the singer was sending "the wrong message" to her fans, Rihanna became furious, noting that their reunion was "in a completely professional environment, and on a complete professional note.

"I mean, if I went back to him [as a girlfriend], then that's a whole different discussion," she said. "And if I ever do, then that's something that y'all have to talk to me about when -- if -- that ever happens. Until then, look at it for what it is. I think a lot of people jumped to an assumption that was incorrect and they ended up looking stupid."

one of the reasons i turned away from Rihanna is that she made a huge deal and milked Chris beat down on her. She said she was a role model for all those who have suffered abusive relationships. Just like how Taylor Swift milked the Kanye insult a few years ago. It's annoying i like Chris Brown. What he did back then was wrong but she should have never been a "spokesperson" for abuse if she is friends with him again. I'm not saying to hate him or not to forgive him but hanging out with him one on one especially when he is dating that girl is completely hypocritical. Rihanna is a badass but she should have never done the woe is me crap if she was just going to befriend him again. Now look at all the crap this has caused not only with the fans but with Drake and Chris and all the "quality time" they spend together in public it was stupid and it erks me that she tried so hard to make people feel sorry for her. So no its not just music Rihanna, its about disappointing the fans that looked up to you when you decided to take on the role of a "spokesperson"

People need to learn how to move on with their lives and not hold grudges.  It's good that Rihanna chose to forgive Chris. Why should she walk around angry and upset over something that happened 3 years ago, if anythig she's the bigger person.  You can forgive but you will never forget!! What Chris did was wrong but does he deserve to be forgiven?? YES and that should be her choice to do not ours!

Okay, so he had a fight back in 2009, over 3 years ago. You telling me that a guy can't be forgiven for something that happened 3 years ago? I am not saying forget it, but, as humans, we should all have the capacity to forgive and for those who can't seem to do that, I feel sorry for you. One size does not fit all, and that goes for those who may have been in any type of abusive relationship. What Brown did in 09 was terrible and totally not called for, but for those of you who still hate on him, especially after all the rehab/treatment he has done and seemingly gotten his life back on track, you are worst than him. If anyone needs to learn to let go, it is you who still keeps hating on  Brown. Let is go and let the man try to be a "man". If Rihanna wants to rekindle their affair, it is their business, not yours or anyone elses. Now if Brown still were beating on women after his 2009 tiff, that would be one thing, but he hasn't, so let go and let him live life.

I think Rihanna was completely right with her decision just because she did a couple songs with chris brown doesn't automatically means that  they are back together.
