Madonna's 'MDNA' set for biggest second-week sales drop in history

Idolator

Madonna's "MDNA" sailed into the peak position on Billboard's Top 200 last week, but Forbes is crying foul and declaring that Lionel Richie, whose "Tuskegee" was No. 2, is owed an apology.

The publication reports that "MDNA" is set to have the largest second-week sales drop — 88 percent, to be exact — in chart history. According to Forbes' Roger Friedman, the bulk of Madge's first-week sales tied in to concert ticket purchases and "artificially inflated Madonna's numbers, putting her first before Lionel Richie and his 'Tuskegee' album."

And while "Tuskegee" sold another 110,000 copies over the past week, "MDNA" moved a mere 46,000, claims Friedman. (Billboard will post official chart figures Wednesday.)

"I do think that all the people involved in the Madonna ticket-CD deal should apologize to Richie for denying him his rightful place at No. 1, starting with Billboard and SoundScan," says the writer. Do you agree?

I am a fan of Madonna's early music but do not care for what she has done in the last 15+ years. She is an aging artist that is trying to hold onto her youth. These days, I much prefer lesser known artists that are more down to earth. I would never pay what she asks for tickets to see her in concert.

A lot of pop artists run into this problem of Old Age....  I think what turns people off to Madonna is her trying to act like she's 20 again.... If she would just accept she's in her 50's and not act so immature and try to be a sex symbol again I bet she would find a solid fan base out there, but when you make a fool of yourself nobody is going to want to listen to your music...

Bottom Line: Act your age....  your not 20 anymore...

The only pop about madonna, is her hip when it goes out on her.

I would just settle for "queen of pop" in the 80's and call it quits, unfortunately her music isn't gaining popularity with the younger crowd even though she's collaborating with the younger audience.

... its like your grandmother is trying to hang out with your daughter's friends pretty much.

I don't believe that sales are dropping. I believe that people are torrenting that **** and downloading it regardless. Once a popular artist's music goes on sale for the first couple of weeks, sure it's at #1. But then enough people start sharing that all over the world wide web, people stop buying it, but they don't stop getting it.  As well, it certainly doesn't mean OMG Madonna has lost her glam. Whatever peeps. This country can't stand longevity, which she's got. Everyone always wants something new, but honestly, no one has ever had the staying power like she has, and I personally admire her for even that. Yeah, she's a terrible actress but she has her strengths and weaknesses just like anyone. But regardless, she pushes forward, and would you be any less bothered by her if you had her bank account? I think not.
