They had the sound, the stlye, plus they have slash (enough said).i think that this band has the staying power and the will power. I also would like mention that their lead guitarist is SLASH. All the songs are pretty much excellently written songs with massive heavy riffs and incredible solos that Slash pulls off, with the heavy bass line that Duff puts in, the drums, of coarse with Matt, Scott's amazing vocals that are both good head-bangers, but soothing at the same time... and of coarse, you need a rythm guitarist and that's where Dave comes in...
Add all these together and you get... Velvet Revolver. And this AWSOME album. If you liked GNR... you may not like this, actually! It's much heavier and more towards the end of head-banger than the GNR solos and such.
And Slash uses the Wah-Wah peddle more... w00t. Was this review helpful? Scott, Slash, Duff and the rest of the gang really have done a great job on this album. The first time I actually heard Velvet Revolver was when I saw them live earlier this year! After that, I fell in love with them! I highly recommend this CD! It is what modern day rock should be about! Try and get the DualDisc version! It has a DVD side with music videos, pictures and the whole CD in enhanced sound! This is a MUST BUY! Was this review helpful? Every song is well put together and the lyrics are classic 80s rock-esque. Being a bass player, this CD really helped with my playing. Duff Mckagan rules!!! ROCK ON!!! Was this review helpful? To be honest I was afraid of the band falling apart because of various addiction issues. But when I finally got the CD I was pretty impressed. I was especially impressed by the lyrics.
Not going to tell you to go out and buy because its a free country, but hey if you want a suggestion, Contraband is a good choice. Was this review helpful? Sign In 1 out of 2 users found this helpful Posted: 4/4/2005A review of Contraband [Explicit] by Metalica774 This cd is AMAZING i never listened to stp that much cuz i only liked 2 songs and besides that they were crap. i liked guns n roses tho they were my favourite band and now with both mixed there the greatest band ever because of slash and scott. Duff is an amazing bassist and dave is good rythm guitar but i cant really hear the drumming its ussually slow until the outro on most songs and what band is Dave from but besides that u should not be reading this and be buying the cd Was this review helpful? Sign In 0 out of 0 users found this helpful Posted: 3/8/2005A review of Contraband [Explicit] by Anonymous Well I was a Fan of the STP a really big fan to be frank. But i never really was all that into guns and roses but the were really good. three whe nslither came out on the radio my cousin and i were getting drunk and we said that velvet revolver were the best band in the history of music and we also said that it was the greatest album ever created even before it ever came out. Turns out we were right. Its kind of funny seeing scott weiland with another band but its okay with the music they are making and i hope they keep it up and come out with an album again in the future that is even better than this one is. Thank you for creating creat music.

My bad. Scott Weiland was one of the best frontmen of the 90's, and now he's got a MUCH stronger group backing him. They are simply amazing. Weiland did great, but none of it would have ever happened without Slash. A modest man who suffered at the hands of ASS Rose, he now has the second chance he needed. Who doesn't have love for this guy? He plays a style of guitar that can pump you up or make you cry. I've heard many guitarists, but none who could play so many emotions as Slash. This is one of the only new groups (Metallica and Korn still do it) that makes solid albums, not just singles surrounded by usless filler. If Weiland stays out of jail, this group can go on to be the one of the best ever. They are certainly off to great start. Was this review helpful? I saw these guys play in NYC, traveled 300miles if you have doubts see them live! Scott is our generation's Iggy Pop, Slash is the last of his kind..a guitar god, Matt brings hedonism into beats, Duff's bass skills are second to no one!! Dave's guitar work is in your face rock! My God rock is back!?!, I actually bought a "rock" cd? wonder what Jack Black thinks? anyways who cares go buy it now and pray to whoever you pray to for more albums from these guys Was this review helpful? Sign In 2 out of 3 users found this helpful Posted: 8/16/2004A review of Contraband [Explicit] by sunkissed13391 I have to admit that I waited until a few people I knew bought this album. I was a little leary of Weiland(my favorite frontman) joining GNR. BUT, it was well worth it! I love this album, just what we need-something FINALLY worth spending my hard-earned money on! Now if they'll only come into concert in my state, that would be even better. I'd love to hear those riffs live, and see Weiland perform. Maybe some of the other "bands" out should take some notes?
