I purchased this sophmore album expecting a few songs to be great like her previous album "Be Not Nobody." To my suprise this album was superb, a great mixture of ballads about love, finding your true self, and a whole host of other things. This is one of those albums where you pop it in and don't skip not one song because every song if that good! The instrumentals are incredible and very diverse, the vocals are in perfect key, and the lyrics cannot not simply be understood but are idiomatic and need to be slowly digested. This is an album for a true music fan, and as one of those I would have to say the greatest song on here is "Who's To Say." I would most definetly recommend you purchase this album it is well worth your money.

vanessa uses her soft "whos to say" voice and it kinda misconstres a different tainted version of her its almost like she lives in a very dark world "white houses" opens up to the pain of teenagers and uses her love and passion for music to make an amazing cd i give it... 4 stars!

Although I really enjoyed her first album, the songs on that CD did not have as much depth and meaning as Carlton's new album. All the songs on Harmonium have amazing piano parts that complement her voice in a great way. This album is more mature and shows off more of carlton's voice. She's not just singing songs with rhyming lyrics and a catchy tune, all the songs just have more. This album simply is better! I especially like c'est la vie and private radio.

Thinly veiling the darker edge of the music behind her dulcet tones, Carlton's latest album 'Harmonium' seems at first to be a total 180 degrees from her softer, more easygoing 'Be Not Nobody'. For those who take a closer look at the music, however, the darker side of 'Harmonium' seems a natural transition from such songs as 'Twilight' and her Stones cover of 'Paint It Black'. The first single, 'White Houses', is musical storytelling at its finest, painting a stark picture of not mere loss of sexual virginity, but of the whole coming-of-age process itself. Songs like 'She Floats' and 'C'est La Vie' highlight that edge mentioned earlier, while fans of Carlton's more upbeat side will find songs like 'Private Radio' and 'San Francisco' to be more appealing. Whichever side you prefer, the musical portraits on this CD portraying some of the most exquisite and chaotic moments of life make this cleverly woven album one of my most highly recommended.

In this album, Carlton has grown vastly. Her first album, "Be Not Nobody", is very nice in itself. However, I feel that this album has much more depth and a more mature feeling. I feel it to have a sort of gothic atmosphere at some times. As for the song, "She Floats", the "screaming" that people hear is not screaming at all. In fact, it is her producer and boyfriend, Stephen Jenkins, whistling loudly. This is shown on the enhanced CD version where you can watch the production footage on your PC. It does sound like screaming, though. Maybe Vanessa or another female vocalist adds to the whistle by screaming. But in the footage, the screaming is not shown. All in all, it is a very good album. I would greatly recommend it!

The second album from this artist delivers on authenticity as well as sincerity in lyrics and music. The opening track conjures up images both believable and touching. While the second song entrances you with an “against all odds” attitude that dances on your heart and leaves you wanting more. “Private Radio” has a nice melody that lingers in your mind and provokes thought. Overall this album is a nice progression from the first album.

I like this cd. Its pretty good. But I would to tell everyone about song number 1 on this cd (white houses). I have seen this song rated five stars. Well, thats because no one knows the meaning of that song. This song is about Vanessa Carlton having SEX!! yes its a shock but true. The other song are great!!! She's pretty cool but why do you not see her music video or hear her song on the radio. Well, maybe she is comming down hard! This Cd is very good I love hearing it over and over again. Some of the songs are so wierd and so some beat over and over again. There is a bunch of screaminng in the song "She floats" it creeps mr OUT! Well there is nothing much to say about this cd. There is only 10 tracks and about 40 minuets and 39 seconds long. Vanessa Carlton has a beautiful voice. Keep your head up high. There is still hope for an another Vanessa Calrton Cd. - All Star Bre-Bre
