Date ![]() Helpful Rating 1 out of 1 users found this helpful Whats wrong with you bob? You give like every van halen record a 1outof5 and you come up with this for a 5outof5. I must admit this is one of VHs better CDs, but there is also quite a few more that are very good. Maybe you should listen to the other VH records one more time and rethink your statements. There are alot of other things you could do besides diss on van halen such as watch paint dry, watch grass grow, buy a chia pet, or even read a book. Van Halen is a great CD and I recomend anyone who is a fan of classic rock to buy it. Also think into purchasing the other albums by Van Halen- they are superb as well (except for one or two!). Was this review helpful? Sign In 0 out of 0 users found this helpful The release of this album changed rock-n-roll guitar playing forever!! The songs were killer, well written rockers!! Van Halen saved rock-n-roll when they released this album. I can think of very few debut albums that had songs this well written with the sound that rocked (Ted Templeman) like it does. What an impact VH had on the rock world. Eddie, with his "Brown Sound", totally changed my approach to, and style of, guitar playing, as I'm sure the same holds true for countless others!! What can I say..... One of the greatest albums (debut or not) ever released!! Was this review helpful? Sign In 3 out of 3 users found this helpful This is my favorite album of all time. It sounds fresh every time that I given it a listen. Highlights include "Ain't Talkin Bout Love" and "Atomic Punk". The first four Van Halen discs are the greatest back to back creations in the history of rock music. Van Halen with David Lee Roth was the ultimate concert experience during the early eighties. I saw them in 1980 for the first time when I was 14 years old and the concert experience was never repeated. I've since attended over 300 concerts. My wish is to see a re-united Van Halen sans Sammy before I leave this Earth. Was this review helpful? When I saw these guys at the Troubadour in the late 70's, they just electrified everybody there. David Lee Roth was at his best in this one, because it was before total fame. The more famous the group got, the worse David got on stage. But, you'd be hard pressed to find anybody that kicked ass vocally in-studio like him.
This is a solid rocker, plain and true. A hall-of-fame album if there ever was one.
The only one better, possibly, is the 1981 release of Fair Warning. Give that one a try if you haven't heard it. Was this review helpful? Sign In 2 out of 3 users found this helpful Flippin' awesome. I got this CD at Barne's N Noble for about $5. I'll tell you what. Let's just say it was the best $5 dollars I've ever spent. Go out and get this CD now. It speaks for itself! Was this review helpful? Sign In 2 out of 2 users found this helpful Horns blaring followed by Mike Anthony's pulsing bass at 11 is how I first heard this important masterpiece. This thing has it all!!!Eddie not only re-invented rock guitar but raised the bar so high, noone could reach it for at least 5 years. David's balls out screams along with his usual cocky sense of humor paired with Mike 's ultra high harmonies make this one of the best sing along albums. Then there is Alex, the glue that held it all together. At the time, this was the blueprint on how an album should be...honest, rocking, fun and catchy. And, it did'nt take a year or more to make. They just hit record and went for it. To say this is classic VH is an understatement...This changed the way we listen to music through the decadent 80's and grungy 90's all the way up where we are now. If this album never came out I bet we would all be listening to Bon Jovi right now thinking they are god's(shudder!!!!) Was this review helpful? Sign In 0 out of 0 users found this helpful This album is the one of the best albums that Van Halen ever had. This one started it all. The guitar riffs of Eddie and Diamond Dave's style made his album. This is a must have album for any person that loves hair metal and a kick ass guitar. On a scale of 1 to 10 I give this album a 10. Was this review helpful? Sign In 0 out of 0 users found this helpful I bought this album in late 1977 and at the time had never heard of them. I listened to it every day in my lunchroon at high school, during the 1977-78 year. EVERY DAY. Now I'm 39 and STILL put on this CD/tape whenever I need to get some honest rock-n-roll. I have since refined my tastes a bit, usually preferring Bethoven or something like that, but when I need a touch my youth back, it's this album. Having seen Zep, Sabbath (with Ozzy), B.O.C., the Live Aid concert in Philly, Aerosmith when they were REAL, and MANY others, and having played in a few bands on the east coast in the mid 1980's, I can honestly say that seeing the original VH lineup performing at the Garden in NYC five times between 1978 and 1982 were one of the highlights of my time on Earth. At the time, NO ONE could touch them. VH1 (Van Halen 1, not the cable station) remains one of the five best honest r&r albums ever produced. If you are able to NOT lose your train of thought when you suddenly hear the first notes of ";Ain't Talkin' About Love";, you need to try again. And tell two friends. And so on. And so on. And so on... Was this review helpful?
