Date ![]() Helpful Rating 0 out of 0 users found this helpful These days you can pick up a copy of U2s POP for about four dollars your local record store, when I bought mine, it had been there, and priced down for months. Not too many people are quite brave enough to buy an album everyone hates, but the truth is that the albums onl crime is being a bit too human, its clumsy, unsure, often reckless. Its dark, especially on the last two tracks, sweet on If you wear that velvet dress and The Playboy mansion. One of their most eclectic albums, but it never hits hard enough, it feels like its held tight, even when its loose, it hurts. Was this review helpful? MOFO contains some of Bono's best lyrics and is a killer song. Everything on this album is gold, especially Gone and Staring at the Sun. The Playboy Mansion is kind of bland, but the lyrical wit makes up for it. Please is simply amazing and Wake Up Dead Man is a great song to Jesus.
Excellent album, severely underrated and underappreciated. Was this review helpful? And listening to it is the perfect way to express these feelings when you yourself are going through them. One of my all-time favorites. Was this review helpful? Maybe it lacked the shock & overall experimentation of Zooropa or Achtung Baby and maybe it wasn't finished as the band would have liked..this is all agreeable..but at the core, whatever the sonic trimmings, this is a dark (maybe darkest) ,raw, naked & fearless record--witness the lyrics in songs like Wake Up Dead Man, Please, Gone & Mofo--some of Bono's most heartfelt & personal work, as much as any work previous & henceforth. As a matter of fact, it's one of my favorite 3 albums from U2.
If you like U2, and you'd like to see what they can do outside the everyday norm... this album will definately fill your sails with an upbeat wind!
U2 is great! Sure, every once in a while (rarely) they'll release a song that I don't care much for... but they have yet to release an album I didn't love! Was this review helpful? Sign In 0 out of 0 users found this helpful It was obvious to me when I heard this album, that U2 was trying to jump into the techno genre. It half worked. The opening song, 'Discothque' is a decent song and the video is kind of funny. 'Do You Feel Loved', is a very underrated song and is one of my personal favorites. But this album could have done wihtout 'MOFO'. They get back on track with 'If God Will Send His Angels', which is one of their best of the 90's but 'Staring At the Sun', to me, is very overrated. 'Last Night On Earth' and 'Gone' are decent songs but they follow those up with another song the album could have done without, 'Miami'. The last four songs aren't as fast paced as most of the rest of the album but they are all good songs. They're just not as upbeat. Overall, it's a decent rebound from Zooropa, and is worth a listen. If you haven't heard it, you should check it out at least once. Was this review helpful? Sign In 1-8 of 8 Per Page |
