After listening to that album over and over I had to buy it all. I can't tell whether the bits and pieces I recognize from other places are homage or just incorporated into the zeitgeist, but those bits (Dinosaur Jr. guitar tones, REM like lyrical sections, U2 like refrains, country rock touches) are never ripoffs.
The evocative lyrics interplay so well with the music, performance, and production that it seems effortless-you are drawn into the piece as if you were in some kind of natural structure, something perfect that has existed forever. I can hear the prairie provinces in every song. Was this review helpful? The Weakerthans provide the world with great indie rock, sounding slightly similar to artists such as Death Cab for Cutie. Please, for the love of God...go purchase this album. You will NOT be disappointed. Was this review helpful? Sign In 1-3 of 3 Per Page |
