Light My Fire, Crystal Ship, Break On Through are just a few of the wonderful songs THE DOORS brought to our ears. To me the songs on their first and most recognized album are the greatest songs to ever hit the radio. RIP JIM Was this review helpful? The Beatles bested themselves (and everything else) with "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band," Pink Floyd debuted with the haunting "Piper at the Gates of Dawn," and the Velvet Underground shocked audiences with their debut "The Velvet Underground and Nico." Then comes in the Doors when they release their self-titled debut amidst those other three grand albums. In my opinion, this albums combines everything the other three albums had. The great and beautiful music of the Beatles, the eerie and yet melodic keyboard music of Pink Floyd, and delivered the shock value and poetry of the Velvet Underground. And like those albums, the Doors delivered psychadelic rock. But they're weren't just psychadelic, nor were they delivering "poppy" tracks. The Doors were a sraight-up rock band. You hear that pure rock sound in tracks like "Break On Through" and "Back Door Man." Now THAT's the sound nowhere to be found in the other three albums. Jim has the screeching vocals rock stars these days use regularly. That's what distinguishes this album from the rest at the time. Jim wasn't just a poet... he was a rock star. But the album isn't just Jim. Ray Manzarek steals the show with his excellent keyboard pieces. Ray is the heart of the Doors. Without him... who knows what the band would've done. Robbie wasn't like other guitarists of his time. His pieces were... strange. Though he wasn't like Robert Plant, he was unique. He stood on his own. John, like every drummer, kept the rhythm steady, and he too stands on his own. He'll sound like a typical drummer, but on "The End" it sounds as if a Native American has taken over John and made him sound as if he's beating the drums of war. Each member's talent and mixing rock with Jazz and Blues makes it even better. This is truly an essential album, and one of rock's all-time finest albums made. It also makes this reviewer's all-time favorite album. Was this review helpful? The Doors unique sound with their electric keyboards and the fusion of Blues,Jazz,Psychedelia, and poetry makes this album stand the test of time. Jim Morrison effortlessly sings and makes the music sound mysterious but interesting. The best song on here is "Light my fire" cannot stop listing to that song. Was this review helpful? It is straight up 60's Phscodelic Rock. If you have a record player that works Get this Album on Vinyl. Was this review helpful? Sign In 8 out of 9 users found this helpful This first album by the Doors is truly one of rock's finest. This album includes one of the Doors most famous songs, and the song that got them the recognition they deserve, Light my fire. Most of the songs on this album are good old rock and roll songs, except for the Alabama song (whiskey bar) which the Doors got from a German opera and The End which is the Doors' acid song and The Crystal Ship which sounds more mournful and sad. The End was featured in Apocalypse Now. This is a must listen album with popular songs including: Break on Through, Alabama Song, Light my fire, and The End. Was this review helpful?
