Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band by Savagerocker4 What can anyone say about an album that litterally re-defined rock and roll? So much has already been written and said about this masterwork that anything I could add would only be redundant. That any album can generate so much attention even to this day is an amazing feat. In my own personal opinion there are a few albums out there that are better. The Whos Quadrophenia comes to mind, but none have left as lasting an impression as Sgt. Peppers has. Certainly in the overall scope of rock and roll history none, even Pet Sounds, was more important. Was this review helpful? Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band by eli12262 When I first heard this album, about 35 years or so ago, it seemed as if each week I had a new favorite song. Oh, it was easy to selectively skip over the not so recognized riffs and go strait to the top 40 tunes, but occassionally Id be too lazy to lift the stylus up to skip a song and sit and listen. Thats all it took to be hooked, one song at a time. Easing into them like sticking your toe in a hot bath, slowly getting used to the new sounds coming from the vinyl. I can still spend hours looking at the allbum cover and find it fascinating that the cover is consistently used as fodder for trivia questions on todays game shows. We listeners were sure able to tell that the fab four were growing in their own distinct ways, even Ringo, who has some awesome drum tracks intersperced among the songs. George and his maharishi bent began to loose me but Ive never quit loving Pauls story telling radio playing music. I also found out many years after my Beatlemania faze that for a long time Id mistaken Pauls voice for Johns and vice versa. And I thought I was so smart. But if YOURE smart, youll buy the cd or download the tracks and listen to them ALL. Not just the popular favs. Was this review helpful? Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band by Ocean455 I had my Beatles phase like a lot of folks then fell out of listining to the Beatles and classic rock in general. I'm 29 Now and rediscovering the music of(ironicaly) my youth. I have to say that it is amazing to me how well this album has held up for over a quarter century. Once you get past the 'I have to listen to independent unpopular music point in your life you can really understand and enjoy how this is not only one of rock music's most influentila albums but also one of it's top 5. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band by Arjacent This is the Beatles second full studio album, and it has improved much since then. While not their "best", it contains some of the their best songs. This is the Beatles response to the Beach Boys Pet Sounds, and is one of the most drug-induced albums of all time. Mostly Paul's, as the other Beatles were too stoned to contribute much. Sgt. Peppers and With a Little Help From My Friends are some of the greatest rock n roll songs ever written, and go well together very well. The Reprise is amazing too, which leads to A Day In the Life... a beautiful ballad, although almost destroyed by Paul's bridge. Other noteworthy songs are Lovely Rita, Mr. Kite (the whole sound break thing is cool), Fixing a Hole and She's Leaving Home both which are clasically influenced. Lucy in the Sky never did much for me. The rest is patched up filler (Good Morning Good Morning?).
I was a little dissapointed with Revolver after all the hype it recieved, but I think Sgt. Peppers improves on almost all of its weak aspects. Definately worth getting, if only for the first two and last two songs. Was this review helpful? Sign In 2 out of 3 users found this helpful Posted: 8/19/2005A review of Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band by nirvana17144 my goodness...never before and there never will be an album tht can completly change the way music can be for better or worse...its unbelivable how they could even concieve the thought of being another band and making it sound like they are playing a live record in front of a live audiance! never will you find a better song for ringo to sing in 'with a little help from my friends' or such a beutiful fantasy song in 'lucy in the sky with diamonds' and the title track rocks just as hard as any of they're other serious rock songs. every song is so diverse, yet brilliant! it just runs together, and its stange how 'when im 64' just rolls right into 'lovely rita' or how the slow ballad 'she's leaving home' sounds like only part 1 of 'for the benefit of mr.kite' never before or since will another band come a mile close to the brilliance of this album. the songs might not be as good as such as revolver, or as original *despite how original they really are* as the white album. but this being the most important rock album in history allready certifies the beatles as perhaps to greatest band to ever grace the earth... Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band by PaisanByMarriage No exaggeration -- simultaneously enigmatic and engaging, this album became the high-water mark for all those (non-Beatles) that dared to follow. It's very easy to imagine most every musician working in 1967 throwing up their hands in exasperation and yelling, 'Bloody hell!! How in the million names of God can we follow that?!'
It appears that Jimmy Page and Pete Townshend were not among them. But I digress.
Enough has been said with regard to why SP is a work of art -- this review is about what it meant to a lad of four at the time of its release (little), and what it's come to mean since (everything and more). For the record, said lad was born in California.
One of these years, I may yet figure out why the universe opened up over this masterpiece and showered it with all its blessings. But for now, I'm still soaking up the greatness. Now it's my daughter's favorite CD -- and she discovered The Beatles three years ago ON HER OWN, at age five! If that isn't proof that the music of The Beatles is truly timeless, I'll trade my status as a former radio personality in on a dying, diseased rodent. Then I'll shoot the rodent. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band by CoolestDana Never thought I could have done the classic commercial and put it to the classic album! But somewhere in my vast Beatle knowledge, the Beatles did put it as Dr. Pepper, till they found out of the soft drink, and well they changed the title. The songs are basically great and fun to listen too, except for ";Within You Without You";. Faves?- I love Good Morning, Good Morning Was this review helpful? Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band by tcoleman8 Folks, you can say whatever you like, but this is absolutely the greatest rock album ever produced by anyone. I have read reviews in the past that talked about it's self consciousness or whatever, and most of the 100 greatest album polls that you see always pick Revolver as no. 1(dont get me wrong, Revolver is a nice album) but anyone who's ever really listened to Sgt. Pepper's has had their mind and attitudes towards life changed at least a little. That is the sign of a true work of art. Was this review helpful? Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band by Maccarulz7 Starting with a 'tune up', the Lonely Hearts Club Band continues by introducing itself. Learning to play in 1947 (according to the leader of the band), seems this band hasn't stopped playing since then. Next to take the center stage is Billy Sheers - also of the aforementioned Lonely Hearts Club Band - getting helped out by his friends. Sung greatly by Ringo, but written by both John and Paul. Following Billy, we are told to picture the trippy scenery while being introduced by a lady in the sky named Lucy, with diamonds, a masterpiece of drug-driven rock. Next, is the underrated Getting Better, Paul's jumpy 'keep your chin up' tune, this album's own 'Good Day Sunshine'. Although this album is drenched in McCartney compositions, John does contribute with Lucy, ...Mr. Kite, Good Morning Good Morning, and half (the better half) of A Day In The Life. Paul did do a good job carrying the band for this album, as it proved to be the most important album in all of Rock. Although in Revolver, George contributed with one of his best songs Taxman, he failed to put out a real good track. The Sitar driven Within you, Without You fails to meet the Sgt. Pepper standards but aren’t enough to pull down the juggernaut that is this album. The Lonely Hearts Club Band finishes off their set with the Reprise of the title track which leads us into A Day In The Life. Finishing off this record is the extraordinary A Day In The Life, perhaps no other Beatle song shows the clear division between John and Paul's writing styles. When all is said and done, this album has it all. The guitar work on Getting Better even hint at a later style solely based on that guitar style (and some horns…ska). The production values rank high thanks to George Martin, and John and Paul were at their creative zenith. This album is the music bible and it should be law to own it. Was this review helpful?
