Shorly after the CD came out i was diagnosed with breast cancer, during the three months of surgery, treatments i listened to Something To Be every single day. It was a very difficult time and yet hearing his music did wonders for me. I went to his fisrt concert date for that tour in Clearwater, Fl. if i could have gotten closer to him i would have told him how much his music, especially his Something To Be CD helped me.When an artist can touch someone else during a time in there life that no one can reach i consider it to be a wonderful gift. In my eyes and ears Rob Thomas is that gift. I will be forever grateful for what his music has done in my life. A devoted fan forever. If theres is any way possible that this message could be forwarded to Rob himself, i would appreciate it. i want him to know what he did for me during the scariest, darkest time in my life. He's managed to stay fresh over the years inside and
outside of Matchbox. Always look forward to what's coming next from this
creative songwriter. Was this review helpful? Sign In 0 out of 0 users found this helpful Posted: 9/13/2006A review of Something To Be by TOOCOOL232 This is no doubt a great cd. I cant think of anyone who went on to create a solo album from a band that was very successful and having is own success if not more than what he did with Matchbox Twenty. I went to two concerts for his solo career and it was awesome. Hes easily the best musician of this time... Was this review helpful? Rob Thomas has done it again and I reccomend this cd to everyone. And dont get me wrong I love Matchbox 20, however, if Rob Thomas sings it then it has to be good. On this cd he has fast songs, fun songs, slow songs, and even sad day songs. Was this review helpful? Rob not only is able to penetrate ones soul with his words and music, but he is also a fantastic story teller. All of his songs have a plot, meaning. Whether it be from life experience that we all can relate to, or taken away to another place and time in a story, its magical. He makes you think, he makes you see, he makes you feel, and he helps you dream. Just as a true artist should do. I give this album 5 stars because you dont offer 6. Its beautiful, simply beautiful. Rob Thomas has put forth an exquisite blend of music that causes listeners to go from happy to sad, to contemplate life as well as death, and to want to jump up and dance, if only in the privacy of their homes.
As fans continue to await the day that Matchbox Twenty will reunite and produce their next record, Something to Be offers a twist on the music that we have become accustomed to from Rob Thomas. It leaves us with something exciting to look forward to once the individual Matchbox Twenty members come together to collaborate on what will, undoubtedly, be an explosive and exciting new album. There's a great variety of songs and I found each of the songs catchy. If anyone doubted his abilities as a songwriter & singer before, they should listen to it.
I strongly recommend people to pick up this CD. Was this review helpful? I can't pick a favorite song because it changes each time I listen to it! Streetcorner Symphony has a special place in my heart because John Mayer plays guitar on it. Each song has something good going for it and I think this CD has something to offer everyone! Hurry out and buy it. You'll see. It is awesome! Was this review helpful? It was probably one of the best CD's I've purchased lately. I enjoy all of the songs; but, especially This is How a Heart Breaks. I would recommend it to anyone..and just did.
