Out Of Time is probably R.E.M.s second best album, Automatic For The People being first, but most people I know prefer the former, probably because it is a more upbeat-sounding album. Belong is my favorite - that blend of vocals gives me chills. Other outstanding songs are Texarkana, Half A World Away, and Me In Honey featuring Kate Pierson of the B52s. Defintiely worth the investment of time and money.

Ok, so I haven't exactly heard all of out of time. But I do LOVE the songs i have heard. REM is my favorite bands, and this album contains some of my fav. songs. Shiny Happy People, while sometimes seen as too "poppy" perfectly describes happiness, IMHO. Buy, listen to it, love it, thats how i feel. :-D

When this album was released, I became a fan of REM with the classic Losing My Religion. This was the song that reminded us that REM will not be going away anytime soon. So I borrowed a friend's Out of Time album and listened to it a few times and instantly liked it, so I got my own copy. Texarkana is a good one, too, as is Radio Song with rapper KRS One. However, this was the greatest album at that time from them, as Automatic For the People made this a second-class album, especially with two songs: Shiny Happy People and Me in Honey with the help of B52's Kate Pierson, as years down the road these are weak tracks.

Never ones to shy away from the best, this band has such a different sound. Out of Time is one of the few albums you can lay back and listen and just dig it.
