The music is so crafty and inventive, off kilter harmonies, out of sync time lines. Music which could only be conceived in the mid-60s. Chaotic at first, symphonic second, P.A.T.G.O.D is just simply a fantastic album. Bands just dont make em like these anymore, unfortunatley. Was this review helpful? Unfortunately, most people are unaware that Pink Floyd had released albums prior "Dark Side of the Moon."
This album is the cornerstone of prog-rock, complete with strange interludes, odd time changes, synthesizers that squeal and roar to every knob-twiddler's delight, and all the lyrical imagery you can stomach.
Five stars in my book and worth every last one! Was this review helpful? Compared to the Pink Floyd of the70's, their earlier albums were quite simply, not so good. Was this review helpful? Sign In 0 out of 1 users found this helpful Posted: 7/9/2005A review of The Piper At The Gates Of Dawn by Jollighrist In this album, you experience the Pink Floyd that was, before Gilmour had any small influence of a path with the band and ever consorted with Roger Waters on anything. In this album the majority of the songs are written by Syd Barrett and as opposed to having a deeper meaning behind all of the lyrics there is just mass confusion, but they are excellent regardless. Barrett's mind in song writing is highly expressed in this album. The strange side of psychadellic rock of the early 60s from the band that eventually defined the word psychadellic. This was the album that put their mark on the industry with Astronomy Domine. This is a must have for any Pink Floyd fan and a good buy for those who are just getting into the Floyd scene or want to check it out. Was this review helpful? Perhaps the best psychadelic album of all time right here. Most Pink Floyd fans have never heard it, yet it stands as one of the great psychadelic masterpieces. Was this review helpful? 'Piper' is perhaps the most psychedelic album ever created and out trips anything the Jefferson Airplane could ever do. I mean, nothing is more trippy than fantastic space travel, and Syd and the boys take us there, song by song. The only drawback to this record is that people familiar with Pink Floyd from the radio may be turned off by it's pop flavor. Nevertheless, it is essential for any true fan. Was this review helpful?
