The Peter Gabriel in the 1980's and forward developed what is known as ";cerebral"; rock. Take the time to listen to the words and emotional intensity of his music. Seeing him in concert is another experience. He is NOT TO BE MISSED. ";Shaking the Tree"; represents some of his greatest hits. What's nice about the CD is that if you've only heard some of his better known hits, ";In Your Eyes"; and ";Sledgehammer"; (both released in the late 1980's, you will be exposed to some pretty textured music such as Family Snapshot (the conflicted thoughts of a serial killer and the subtle hints of the abuse from his family that shaped him). The song brings to mind the Kennedy assassination. Another beautiful song, San Jacinto is hard to describe. My first exposure to it was when Gabriel sang it live with his light theatrics - it still lives in my heart almost 15 years later. Biko, is true to Gabriel's second devotion: human rights. The story of South America's Biko is still applicable to others facing political and social barriers such as apartheid. Gabriel was among the first to blend his songwriting and vision with what is known today as ";World Music";. It takes his songwriting to heights now being explored by others.
