Sign In 1 out of 1 users found this helpful This was the one I bought 3 days after release. Had been seeing mookie blaylock gig around Seattle and was stoked to see this go into production. The layers and feeling in the guitar work by Mcready and co is amazing. I was happy to see EV come in and give this record (yeah I dated myself and said record) the emotional punch it deserved after the whole MLB thing went down. The RCKCNDY show soon after was a catharsis unlike few others in the years since. Great music always originates from feeling and the emotion and honest feeling put into this recording shines through from start to finish. Have been a little disappointed in the subsequent lack of guitar work on some of the later disks. I have a great deal of respect for Neil Young but these guys were a much better rock band than folk band IMHO... Was this review helpful? This has given rise and has influenced by so many other bands that it is unmistakeable. Was this review helpful? 'alive' and 'jeremy' are amazing, and eddie vedder has absolutly great lyrics to go along with the melodic hooks tht no one seems to notice. Was this review helpful? Sign In 1 out of 3 users found this helpful Posted: 6/22/2005A review of Ten by grweatherman pearl jam made the most mainstream album of the seattle bands here, and songwriting is superb. it's no wonder that pearl jam dominated the airwaves with such great singles as alive, even flow, and jeremy. a must have and a good starting place for those interested in the seattle sound of that era. Since then it's my favourite album all time.
Especially Black & Jeremy are great to listen to. Was this review helpful? Sign In 0 out of 1 users found this helpful Posted: 3/13/2005A review of Ten by Thrasher1011 Well Pearl Jam's Ten is the greatest album of the early 90s. It even beats Nirvana's Nevermind anyday (well at least at writing songs) Eddie Vedder's voice is amazing for a Califorina surfur dude. Anyways the best songs have to be "Once" "Even Flow" and "Jeremey" so buy this album when you get a chance. Was this review helpful? Sign In 1 out of 3 users found this helpful One of the best albums of all time. Eddie Vedder is one of the most passionate lead singers ever, and I think that comes through best on this album. Although Pearl Jam went on to do many diverse and arguably better things, this is the album that everyone remembers, and this is the album that put Nirvana's Nevermind to shame, both in quality and in sales. Honestly, is there a better song than Black? Was this review helpful? There was Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, The Doors, Jimi Hendrix and few others. Here is one. With influences from all of the above artists, Pearl Jam took their time to release this one of a kind masterpiece for our generation, Generation X. If X marks the spot, then Ten definately blew the spot up. From Once to Release, which is only on the CD release of the album, this album rocks with hearty guitar riffs and solos, socially concious lyrics delivered in perfect pitch and a thriving drum beat that keeps this album jamming 13 years after its original release date. Smoother than Alice in Chains and Soundgarden, yet harder than Blindmelon, all of whom hit the scene at about the same time, Pearl Jam took on mass appeal that has thrived and survived the test of time. Sign In 2 out of 3 users found this helpful Posted: 8/3/2004A review of Ten by MorgaineLeFaey I felt that the smoothness of Pearl Jam's Ten album immediatly created their main stream success. From songs like Jeremy describing the hidden depression inside broken childhood...the children forgotten by the wasteside. To songs such as Evenflow that rage to hearts and Once screaming the passion of lost control. Recommended to the fullest extent, buy Ten, its worth the pride of owning a real Copy. From the roaring guitars of two masters of music like McCready and Gossard to the rhythm that Amment adds and the growling voice of Vedder this album does deserve to be one of the best of all times. I just simply love it. Was this review helpful? Sign In 1 out of 3 users found this helpful If this is the only Pearl Jam album you buy, then shame on YOU! It gets so much better and so diverse after this album. Dont get me wrong, this album may be the poster child album for our generation, but do PJ justice and get all the others. There is nothing (and may never be) another band like this, we are all lucky to grow up listening to them. Read the lyrics and listen, it doesnt get any better than this folks!...Vrs...Vitalogy...No Code...Yield...Binaural...Riot Act...Lost Dogs...then go buy Temple of the Dog, its PJ and Soundgarden doing a tribute album. After you listen to Hungerstrike you will have never turn Ed Vedder off....... I KNOW I WAS BORN AND I KNOW THAT ILL DIE, THE IN BETWEEN IS MINE...I AM MINE........... laates Was this review helpful? I may have heard songs from this album way back in the early 90s, but I'm not too sure. Anyways, a few months or weeks ago, I kept on hearing of Pearl Jam. I was like, "Man, these guys must've been good," and so fourth. So, I bought this album after all that, and I must say, this is most likely the best album of the 90s and one of the greatest albums ever released. The first song "Once" caught my attention. Started out with an unusual intro... kinda like Indian-type. I listened to the whole album that day. I was completely blown away. Now, I may be a loser for not discovering Pearl Jam earlier, but... I think that this was much better than Nirvana's "Nevermind." This is a great album and I can't stop listening to it. Great lyrics, gret sound, and Eddie Vedder has a great voice. Nowadays, I see that no one really knows Pearl Jam... it's all about Nirvana. Kiddies, put Nirvana away for a while and buy Pearl Jam's "Ten", as well as some other grunge CDs from bands like Soundgarden or Alice in Chains. Was this review helpful? Sign In 4 out of 6 users found this helpful Posted: 10/12/2003A review of Ten by ProdigalRebel When you load this disc, ur confused by the weird Tribal-type beat on "Once". It starts off into a fast-paced rocker which isn't exactly memorable until the fourth listen. Then you enter into "Evenflow" & "Alive". Music that makes you wanna rip ur shirt off, run around in circles, swing like a monkey on the chandeliers and play air guitar like there's no tomorrow! Then you wanna fix a sandwich on "Why Go" and maybe get some ice-cream while u let a tear roll by on "Black". Then you wanna crank the volume up reaaaaaal high...and then a little more to hear "Jeremy", a haunting, powerful Rock Ballad that will make you want to do a better job of raising your kids and not do the same mistakes that ur parents made. "Oceans" & "Porch" will envelop you with crunchy guitars and then you will be prepared for an awesome Guitar on the melancholy "Garden". "Deep" & "Release" will again change tempos and you will be left wondering how an artist that put together a musical expression so pure and Original, just disappeared after being all set to be the torch-bearers for 90's Rock?<br>Song-writing is incredibly thought-provoking, confessional("Alive"), Emotional("Black" is one of the Greatest Sad songs Ever!) and carries a unique Ed Vedder Trademark. 1991 was a great year for Rock Music, Albums that made incredible gifts under your Xmas tree. This Album could very well be the Star Atop that Xmas Tree. Was this review helpful? Sign In |
