This is the second album that I bought when it came to Ozzy. No More Tears was the first. I had to find out about the genius at work when it came to lyrics and the guitar work. Ozzy's best work is found in Blizzard of Ozz, and in this, Diary of a Madman. I can understand why he would indeed go mad, after losing his dear friend and guitarist Randy Rhoads in a tragic plane crash, heavy metal music was changing, Ozzy being only one of the many innovators, certainly set the stage. His signiture voice stands all over the songs here, there was a definate progression, people would have looked forward to his music getting better as the days went by. Although his success never faltered, many wonder what would have been. This album marks a turning point in his career, leaving Sabbath and his second album ready to hit the charts, this is Ozzy's first concept album, enabling you to follow in his madness as the years go by. Diary of a Madman, as a song and album stand out the most here, as true as Ozzy can be, you can surely appreciate the irony of madness.

Posted: 6/8/2004A review of Diary of a Madman by Ozzy_SDMF
Just as the title says, this is the last album to feature the great late Randy Rhoads. After the successful Blizzard of Ozz, Ozzy made another album, "Diary of a Madman". While most critics will fight over which of the two is better, they all agree that "Diary of a Madman" is one of Ozzy's best. Although the making of the album was at a speedy schedule, the outcome is marvelous. The album is heavier, darker, and not as melodic as "Blizzard of Ozz". Every song is just as good, even better, than songs on "Blizzard of Ozz". The title track is one of Ozzy's best songs he has ever recorded. It's the last album to showcase Randy's guitar playing and he left with a bang.

Any album with Rhoads and Ozzy together has a magic about it. Between Blizzard and Diary I think this one is marginly better for the reason that there is some development in the collaboration and this comes off. ";Tonight"; is an AWESOME ballad - one of Ozzy's best. ";Flying High"; shows Ozzy and Randy at their best in their respective roles. Don't hesitate to get this album if you have any doubts.

I have fond memories of this album. It reminds me of my early rebelluous teenage years.I dont know how often I would listen to it today but I must admit I still could enjoy tracks like ";over the moutain"; or ";Diary of a madman"; itself. Those were the days Ozz.

If you lived it then you loved it . . . aw! . . . the memories come flodding back yet are distorted to see the elderly Oz in beverly Hills fighting his own brat kids! He has reaped the whirlwind!

Randy Rhoads, in my opinion was the best rock guitarist of his day. The only other guitarists who rank anywhere near him today are Dave Murray and Adrian Smith of Iron Maiden, and Eddie Van Halen. Randy Rhoads actually played classical music on his guitar and integrated it into Ozzy's records. He died way too young! Everyone should own the Randy Rhoads Tribute CD so they hear just how talented Randy was.
