This may be the worst album of all time. Try as you might to find redeeming qualities, each song gives little reason to ever listen to it again. I guess the great hope is that Rick Rubin can resurrect the status of what was once one of the best bands ever. The fact that Bob Rock has been 86d is a good step in the right direction. If Rubin can reverse some of the damage done after Justice, we might have something somebody might want to listen to again.

I have the CD of St. Anger and I can tell you that this is not metal. This is hard rock. However, All Within My Hands has a mix of punk rock in it. The one thing I dont like about this album is that there are no solos. And yes, I have seen Some Kind of Monster, but no solos? Wheres the Kirk Hammett that we know and love? Why, Kirk, why?

METALLICA have always been awesome, and still are. The only problem is that Metallica didnt write this album-BOB ROCK did. That materialistic sell-out has had too much of a hand in producing metallica's songs to what he thinks will sell. Hes only had a downhill ride since Load and lets not let him continue. Although this doesnt get the lowest of ratings for nice riffage in places, and a medium for metallica to regroup. But definitly not anything comparable to the likes of Ride the Lightning. Cant wait for the new stuff but someone take that trash can away from Lars this time!

I love metallica's music. Metallica's one of my favorite bands, so many metallica fans could see why many metallica fans and myself were dissapointed with this album. Production quality is top-notch. Everything sounds great, but every noise and guitar ryf is repeated so much that it gets old really fast. This is also similar ti Static-X's new album. After you hear the first three songs on St.Anger (which are the best ones on the whole album) that's when everything begins to go down-hill for this album. This album isn't a "must have" for diehard metallica fans, but it sure as hell is an ass load better than load.

Their first studio album in five years, Metallica's "St. Anger" is probably their most underappreciated album. Getting back in tune with their thrash roots, "St. Anger" contains several memorable tunes. However, some of the songs can get quite repetitive, and the extra tight tuning of Lars Ulrich's snare drum wasn't all that well recieved, though a very overlookable flaw. Of course, the obvious thing which detered many veteran 'Tallica fans from this album was the lack of guitar solos, a signature staple of Metallica all thrash and speed metal bands. Even though this is explained in the documentary "Some Kind of Monster", many people consider this album as less than sub-par because of it. However, overlooking the albums weakpoints, it still is a memorable composition. As with most albums by just about any band, there are many really great songs (a lot of times better than the singles) that are often overlooked by the general public and the fan who only knows the radio singles. These include titles such as "My World", "Sweet Amber", and "Shoot Me Again"; not to say that the better known songs like "Frantic", "St. Anger", and "Some Kind of Monster" aren't worth listening to. If you can look past the minor blemishes on this album, you might be able to appreciate "St. Anger" as a worthy album of the greatest metal band of all time!

OK... one thing to say to all the "fans" out there... young and old... Metallica has always been on the cutting edge of the Metal scene. Nothing has changed with St. Anger! This album rocks!!! This album is as close as we have gotten to the true voice of James Hetfield in 23 years of production. I must say that Ride the Lightning is my favorite album... but Anger is so stripped down and still so heavy that its imposible not to love. As far as everyone crying about the solos... listen to the Black album and stop calling yourself a fan!! Lastly, incase it isn't evident, the sound is raw and uncut for a reason... feeling is lost in production. St. Anger makes you feel as if Metallica is playing right in front of you... no glam... no triple overlayed vocals... and yes... no F*CKING solos... *sniffle*... METALLICA WILL ALWAYS KICK A$$ AND TRUE FANS WILL ALWAYS APPRECIATE THEIR MUSIC!!!

This is more like 3.5 stars, but the hell with it. The album is harsh heavy and a return to double bass for Lars, but with the lack of guitar solos, makes you wonder if Kirk even showed up for recording. I guess we all know who the invisible kid is. The riffs are cool but VERY repetitive. After the first listen even you can predict where the song is going to go. The Intros to the songs are NOWHERE in the league of any older metallica albums. Even Load had some killer inros such as King Nothing and Outlaw Torn. The snare drum sound is unique to say the least but is it really neccessary for the WHOLE album to have that sound? Metallica could have definitley done better ESPECAILLY after making us wait for 6 years for this album, but it is a step in the right direction. Next album should have better production and solos, and hopefully go back to standard or half-step tuning.

This album, if it had had the recording quality of "...And Justice For All," could have been a near-masterpiece. The writing is excellent, for the most part, and the majority of the riffs they have written really grind. Unfortunately, the sound of the instruments (especially the snare drum and too-low-distortion guitars) is too weak to produce any real impact, and therefore the album leaves you feeling ultimately unsatisifed, wishing that the tracks gave you the adrenaline that you know they could have with just some minor tweaking. I can appreciate that Metallica was making a valiant attempt to silence the critics and get back to their roots, but to produce this album now in a "garage" style tone, at their age, was an act of futility in the making. If only they would go back and readjust the recording quality to match the hard tone that they once (upon a time) utilized in the past, it could really be fantastic. As it stands, it's a two-listener.

Okay so this was my first metallica album, I've since gotten all of them. I think St.Anger has gotten metallica back into the frame ofmind the old metallica my only complains on this album is there being no solos, and the lyrics are kinda shallow for 7-8 minutes songs, so I think the next album will be metallica as they should be, thanks to st.anger, thats what I think anyways

.. For all the right reasons... To everyone that complains of the lack of solos and the production quality I have one thing to say... That's the point. It's the heavy Metallica, what we all used to see on Ride the Lightning and Kill 'Em All, stripped down to it's bare minimum. There's more to music then complexity and Metallica proves here that they can get the point across without 4 minute long guitar solos and interludes. This is their most brutal and angry album by far. Listen to it without a bias. Take it plainly and stripped down like it was produced and meant to be taken. There's emotion here something all the money in the world can't buy or force. One more shot at the production quality rants... I love ...And Justice for All and it was produced poorly. Does that detract from it?

I honestly don't know why this album has caught so much flak. This is the hardest and heaviest Metallica I have heard in a long time. I think everyone thinks of this album in comparison to all the other Metallica albums, and won't take it for what it is. This is old-school Metallica at it's finest, and shows that Metallica can still bring the thunder 20+ years after they first came on to the metal scene. People were expecting more of the same, and were disappointed that they didn't get it. This is an awesome album, get it!

Although this album is wonderful, and I love a lot of the tracks, it isn't what I was expecting from Metallica. But oh well, I appreciate how the band knows that it needs to grow and evolve. I think the newer generation will love this album. Also, Metallica hasn't changed to fit the generation, they've changed because that's what people do, they change. This album is a great piece of art, and all rock fans should check it out.

I think Metallica's best albums were The Black Alum and Master Of Puppets but this one seems to lack the band's amazing creativity and phenominal solos. The songs are a bit too long and repetitive. Granted It's not a bad album and St. Anger rocks! but it's just not the amazing Metallica we all knew in the 80s and early 90s

yea, its new, its different. isnt that what metallica has always been about? they didnt sell out by cutting their hair, they just took the money and ran; and &*^* you cause you know you'd do the same. these lyrics are way beyond hetifields own problems, its a total mockery of american society. the fact your all dumb enough to buy into mtv and their franchise just fuels everything along. they are just making as much money off their music because they can, the average consumer is too dumb to know any better. so here's to you guys on another kick ass album, but ill never pay you ridiculous ticket prices to see music that you know should be free for everyone.

I can not believe what I am reading! People giving this album 5 Stars, HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I think Metallica, is paying someone to write these reviews, kinda like piece work , a nickel for each really good review. It's a nightmare listening to Metallica now... what hellish concoction are they gonna try and sell us next. I think that they signed a deal with the devil and now the contract is up. Ten years of unbelievable music followed by an unending torturous burn to the bottomless pits of hell.
